I simply do not understand why you have such a lax attitude towards drugs such as meth, which has been spreading throughout the U.S. and has caused increased crime rates in numerous areas.

Legalize shit like this? I'm sorry, but that is foolish. Create an extensive treatment program, including mandatory testing and whatnot, and keep up with the individuals in a probation-like manner.

I see absolutely no way that legalizing a drug like this can have any positive effects.

Look at the link you posted:

Population growth is an important factor. Arizona grew at triple the rate of the national average between 1993 and 2003. But the Arizona Department of Public Safety still remains short 100 officers, "and our correction facilities are seriously overcrowded - to the point where judges are unable to sentence people to jail time because there is no place to put them," says Mr. Goddard.

When you look at AZ, it is having a huge problem with vast numbers of illegal immigrants coming in. Of course you're going to have an increase in crime when you have all these new people coming in, that don't understand our culture, language, etc. And then look at the prisons - they can't put real criminals in prison because of room. Those are the reasons for the increase in crime. Not meth.

The problem with Meth....

First of all, people that do Meth, are usually living in poverty as it is.

Second of all, people used to just use Speed, which wasn't nearly as addictive, people would get it from Drs. It was very common for people to use.

Meth is the American drug of choice. It is not much different than people who have a Starbucks addiction if you look at it on a Simple level. You can get Speed anytime of day, anywhere.

When they started cracking on people obtaining Prescription Speed, people started making their own....

I'm saying the drug laws are idiotic. Those people are just as stupid for breaking the law.

Once we change it though, they need to be let out.

Marijuana is illegal.

In California, I can possess up to an ounce, and it's a misdeamenor.

Why is it that the states can say something regarding drugs is the equivilent to a failure to yield citation, but the federal government wants to put people away for 10 years for the same infraction?

So you'd be ok with the government banning religion? Because what you're implying is that anything can be illegal for any reason, and that's what makes something "right" or "wrong."

It's all speed is what I'm saying. I am saying Americans like taking Speed. And when you take away one source of it, they find other sources.

If drugs are *bad*, and so is addiction, why is addiction to caffeine looked at so mildly? It's just as harmful. It's bad for fetuses. A person can go broke. You might say, well, coffee isn't as addictive, it's still a drug, and it's still a stimulant and people still get the same mental addiction as they do with Meth.

The difference is, is that a person who does Meth, can't afford Starbucks.

Just because it's illegal doesn't mean it's wrong or bad.

There are a lot of misconceptions about drug use. Lots of people think that anyone who does drugs do them in excess, and that's just not true.

For instance, I know a group of doctors who have a party every christmas called "It Always Snows on Christmas" where they do blow. For most of them, that is the only time during the year they do drugs at all, and a few of them are casual users. And yet they can still go on to lead successful lives as doctors.

I know a LOT of college kids (and people I went to college with) who used various drugs casually and still did well in school and went on to have good jobs and shit.

The most focused and organized person I know in the whole world has tried just about every drug I know of, and is a casual user of a couple.

Drugs aren't only for vagabonds and miscreants... and with drugs legalized, it would only be the vagabonds and miscreants who would go to jail instead of the normal people who are also casual users.

There is such a thing as cheap coffee. I completely disagree with your comparing caffeine to meth. They might do similar things, but meth is many, many times stronger.

So you don't think the government will shit on that when given the chance? They've already shitted on 95% of the other parts in it.
