There are a lot of misconceptions about drug use. Lots of people think that anyone who does drugs do them in excess, and that's just not true.

For instance, I know a group of doctors who have a party every christmas called "It Always Snows on Christmas" where they do blow. For most of them, that is the only time during the year they do drugs at all, and a few of them are casual users. And yet they can still go on to lead successful lives as doctors.

I know a LOT of college kids (and people I went to college with) who used various drugs casually and still did well in school and went on to have good jobs and shit.

The most focused and organized person I know in the whole world has tried just about every drug I know of, and is a casual user of a couple.

Drugs aren't only for vagabonds and miscreants... and with drugs legalized, it would only be the vagabonds and miscreants who would go to jail instead of the normal people who are also casual users.

There's no such thing as a casual meth or heroin user. Coke is different, I'll agree.

Some drugs are simply so powerful that they become mentally addictive almost from the first time they are taken, and physical dependency follows.

Weed, alcohol, and to a lesser degree coke, are nothing remotely like meth or heroin in regards to dependency.

And how many caffeine addicts cause crimes to feed their addiction?

If you are going to argue that drug addiction doesn't lead to property crimes...

Alcohol is one of the most addictive drugs there are. It's psychoactive much like heroine is, and can quickly cause a physical dependancy like both heroine and meth.

I assure you there are casual meth and heroine users, I know some personally.

It's amazing that people make Cigarette companies out to be the villian but then so many of those same people want to make fucking horrible drugs legal. Is it so that when they get sick and or die they and their families can sue the companies that are making those drugs?

Before these drugs were outlawed, people used to use them also medicinally. There are medicinal reasons to use Herion, Cocaine, Meth, Marijuana, and even MDMA. And people used them.

If those are illegal, people are at the mercy of drug companies for treatment. They want a profit, they don't want people using what can be easily obtained, or grown in a closet. They profit from this.

yeah, the pharma industry does NOT want people to self medicate... it makes them far less money.

I'm not making cigarette companies out to be a villian. Nor am I trying to make caffeine companies out to be a villian. I'm merely stating that all sorts of chemicals are available now to buy that are far worse than any drug. And if you think drugs should be illegal only because they are "bad" then you should also try to get everything else illegal that is "bad." Don't be a hypocrite.

That goes to show what legalizing a drug will do.

Read the Constitution. And then read the news about what our government is doing. And then research what our government has done for decades. You'll see it.

hey man, if you're for alcohol prohibition, at least you're consistant. I think those who don't want alcohol outlawed (or especially those who drink alcohol), but are proponents of keeping drugs illegal are major hypocrits.

Anyway, back to the subject:

Alcohol related crimes are still crimes and can be punished.. but as we found out during prohibition, making it illegal only creates MORE crime, not less.

But making alcohol illegal would make it WORSE! So, yeah, shitty people will still do drugs and hurt people if it's made legal. But that doesn't mean the answer is to make it illegal.

Shit, extremist Christians and Muslims commit crimes sometimes. That doesn't mean we should outlaw religion.

Yes, it does. If you're going to argue that a certain drug should be illegal because it damages people's lives, why would then argue that another drug should be legal, but yet it damages people's lives as well?

I think banning something simply because it's bad for you is a silly reason. After all if you are going to take that route... you should be first looking to ban the most harmful drug in this country. Ciggarettes. they kill more people than drunk driving or overdoses or murders. etc.
