| Salvador Allende Sorry if this shouldn't be in here. I was looking for a suibtable place to post on a historical event. It was the lesser known 9/11, when the fascist General Pinochet backed by more than simply moral support from the empire, overthrew the democratic government of Chile. This was a key part of the US' War on Democracy. This war has continued to this day. We see it in Latin America in the form of subversion, coups and neocolonialism. Today though the continent is waking up to this and the empire is not so effective at practising domination. The fgailure to dispose of Chavez and the Bolivarian Revolution in the 2002 coup is testament to this. Today would be the 100th birthday of Allende.

| Is that Che Guevara in your avatar? I guess given the subject of the thread, that would make sense. Anyhow, more to the topic, I am often sickened by the actions of my country in the past in the name of national safety and anti-communism. It is my opinion that communist and capitalist countries can exist in the same world without contention. Certainly the actions performed throughout the cold war by the CIA and other American subversive groups only worked to demonize us. Interventionism, no matter the political structure, is reprehensible. | ||||

I wont go that far. I think there are rare occassions when something may need to be done. I dont think there is any better example than Nazi Germany.

That goes for first as well as second and third world nations. Boundaries are defined, and if a country does not respect those boundaries, I fully expect the country being attacked and those with vested interests in that country to stave off the attacker.
