Instead of patrolling down the street in a linear fashion, they came up with vertical patrolling to combat IRA IEDs. They taught it to us and we used it with mixed results.

Israel is thriving, have you checked reality lately. They are the ones with the military detering attack. They are the ones that took our Iraq's nuclear facitility in 1982 and Syria's just a few months ago.

Pay attention! For the love of God....Israel defines progress in that region! They're hated BECAUSE of their success. They can open or close borders at will! IF Israel has had progress in the "none what so ever" as you put it, what does that say of militant Islam and their day after Israel was created hate...where does militant Islam find itself today?

They have made no progress as it pertains to terrorism, the original topic of our discussion if you recall. I guess you became confused during your inane ranting. We were talking about approaches to fighting terrorism, not economic development or voting rights. So to get us back on track: They are still the subject of just as many terrorist attacks today as they have been in the past, perhaps more. They have made no progress in thier fight against terrorism and terrorist groups. Hamas is still a force in Palestine, perhaps more today than ever before. The people of Palestine even incorporated Hamas into thier own government as a response to Isreali tactics.

No where near the same extent that we are relying on ours. They never invaded Ireland, took over the country and installed a friendly government, at least not since feudalism. They practice alot more restraint than do we.

They had to deploy the British Royal Marines in Northern Ireland to keep the peace. The IRA used terrorism to try to unite Ireland as one country, the tactics used paralleled the tactics used in Iraq today.

shitty mspaint but basically instead of 12 guys walking up one street you split into smaller teams and patrol several adjacent streets at the same time. There are many problems with linear patrols in an urban environment, the first is the your firepower is over concentrated in one area and it will be hard to envelope (flank for your CoD4 players) any threat. The vertical patrol gives your more flexibility as well as the ability to patrol a larger area. If a threat occurs you can move your smaller units around to envelope it and if an IED does go off there are less people in the area.

The British Royal Marines came up with this while dealing with the IRA when they were deployed in Ireland.

You can't be serious. I don't even know how to respond. I am fully aware of thier history. They have been battling terrorist groups since thier inception and they continue to battle them today, in fact they are facing more of a threat from terrorism today than ever before. How is that progress? They have been using thier military to lash out at Palestine and surrouding counties for decades. How long ago was the 6 days war? 50 years? They have been battling terrorism with thier military for 50 years and yet the threat from terrorism today is greater than it ever was. You call that success? Plaestine has a terrorist dominated government that is gaining recogniztion around the world as a legitimate government and that is progress? How? This isn't a short term increase due to Isreal invading Lebanon or demolishing homes in Palestine. This is an ongoing issue. The problem is so bad infact that Israel has resorted to building a massive wall betweeb itself and Palestine. How is that success? Please educate me oh great one.

Progress? They get welfare from us. If it wasn't for the billions they get from us they would not be so prosperous nor would they have the military hardware to defeat the countries around them.

I didn't know welfare is progress - I guess the conservatives are wrong!
