War on Drugs gets a couple criminals off the streets

Undercover police officers who arrested four men on drug charges are under investigation after surveillance video proved the men they arrested committed no crime.

Drug charges against brothers Jose Colon and Maximo Colon, along with two of their friends have been dropped.

The undercover NYPD officers are seen on video dancing in the street, then attempting to frame four innocent men.

Without the War on Drugs, these criminals might still be on the streets. Hopefully these guys will get put "up the creek" for a long time.

Perry Mason Moment in LA Trial: Surprise Video Exonerates Defendant | ABA Journal - Law News Now

A drug possession trial in Los Angeles ended abruptly after dramatic courtroom developments. When a surprise videotape of the defendant's arrest was played in court Friday by the defense, it contradicted the testimony of two arresting police officers, who are now the focus of a new investigation.
Are these to separate incidents? NY & LA???

Same thing happened to a friend in Gig Harbor, WA. Dirty cop always targeted him for any little thing he could think of (yeah friend was stupid but the cop ALWAYS pulled him over and searched him for no reason, arrested my friend like 4 times) but now hes being investigated for purgery and falsifying reports etc. All of my friend's arrestes were cleared from his record. Some cops are dirrrrrrty.

Looks like it, yeah. The first link is for a New York CBS affiliate, so I'm sure they're getting the news right for their own area. The one you posted cites the Los Angeles Times.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure these are two separate incidents.

It's not. And never will be. Might as well say "If speeding were legal..." "If littering were legal...." "If driving a car without license plates were legal...."

That doesn't change the fact that the chain of causation can be traced back to the War on Drugs.

I sense some cynicism against the effort in the war on drugs, and I think it important to recognize the improvements we've made on a larger scale. Let's consider the recent article considering the hostages recently released from FARC. Many believe that efforts coordinated by Columbia and the US are bringing an end to one of the biggest drug rings in the world.

The end of FARC - Los Angeles Times

I believe this is in large part due to efforts by the US. Certainly this is a good thing?

If drugs weren't illegal, you wouldn't have a criminal element that can thrive on a product that there's massive desire for, but laws against.

People could go to 7/11 and pick up an ounce of weed or coke like they can a 6 pack, and people could profit from its sale in a completely above the board manner..

Instead, by making it illegal, you've created a need for groups which operate outside the law, and because they're willing to break drug laws on the books already, it's more likely they're going to be willing to break other laws in the course of trying to sell them (ie: murder, kidnapping, whatatever)

Right, and let's give credit to the state for putting alcohol smugglers behind bars, because that was a good thing too, right?

Never mind that as soon as alcohol was legalized, the heinous pieces of shit that were running the black alcohol market were put out of business.

You guys seem to want to liken the addict effects of these drugs (not to mention the adverse health affects) with alcohol. They're not comparable. Picking up cocaine at a drug store is not the same as picking up a 6 pack. First, the completely debilitating affects of cocaine use far outweigh the debilitating affects of a 6 pack. Secondly, on is far more likely to OD on cocaine or heroine than they are to die from alcohol use. And we're talking just normal usage. Obviously anything over moderate usage of alcohol is going to kill you, just like abuse of any substance will kill you. There is no such thing as moderate drug use. People can't be functional crack addicts or functional heroine addicts. It juts doesn't happen.

The fact that you can suggest the two are so simply compared is borderline insane.

So you are blaming the "War on Drugs" with morally corrupting the officers? I would bet they would be corrupt even without the "War on Drugs".

People realized the stupidity of alcohol prohibition.

I have hope that they will realize the stupidity of drug prohibition.

Stupid to you. But you aren't most people. Most people don't want drugs to be legal, so they never will be. Except maybe pot. The rest will always be illegal, as they should be.

Why should they be illegal?

Religion has been abused for centuries and caused the deaths of many more people than drugs ever will. Maybe it's too dangerous and should be outlawed too?
