Exaggerating their features isn't going to be picked up as a joke the as it would be with someone else's face who's more well known, nor would the manipulation be taken as an obvious reference to something specific, ie: making their nose grow extremely large to say they weren't telling would be a reference to Pinocchio.. nothing so comical or obvious is in play here.

You say it's a joke, but there was no indication that it was meant as one, so your assertion makes absolutely no sense. I've already addressed the issue of whether they thought it'd go unnoticed earlier in the thread.

There were SOUND EFFECTS...how many serious news programs have sound effects.....and are hosted by a weatherman and the sports guy? Seriously, it's their "light" morning show. They go out into the streets with hot dog eating champions, it's not serious news in the morning.

No, I'm basing my analysis on the evidence available from the video.

There was nothing to indicate they were trying to make a joke or light of the situation when they showed the photographs.. the only evidence of that came after, when they ended their character assassination piece on a light note, showing them place the faces on a dog

And as far as the Lebanon thing, I'm just saying that you can't try to make a point that other organizations do it when it was a hired photographer and they didn't keep them in place after it was discovered.

So Republicans consider character assassination the "light side" of the news? Don't act like they don't cover anything but weather and sports and hot dog eating, they talk about current events and regular news on that program as well

Uh, did you watch the video? The entire piece is character assassination for an article they wrote. They didn't even try to discredit the stuff in the article directly, instead the entire piece was personal, about the authors.

One of our rules here is "make sure your posts focus on the topic and points made in a post instead of the person who posted it" .. because the latter is making it personal instead of debating facts, that's exactly what Fox did here.

Well, at least now we've gotten you to concede that Fox is akin to Comedy Central

But, I actually think The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are important tools as far as television news goes because they point out hypocrisy and other flaws in our system through satire.. what redeeming quality does this have?

It doesn't have any redeeming quality, I think that's where you're confused. Where does it say that everything on TV has to be redeeming? Do Regis and Kelly have a redeeming quality? Ellen? Good Morning America? I put that show on par with them, you go there for mindless entertainment while you're putting on your shoes in the morning, not for hard hitting news.

It's news entertainment that fills a share of the market that had previously been ignored. It panders to them and gives them what they want to hear. It's the name of the game in TV ratings....I don't really like any of the big networks and what they've done to the news, but this is far from the worst thing that's been done and certainly isn't worth this many pages on a message board. This obviously means a lot more to you than it does me.

Well, the fact that we've been going back and forth about this for 5 pages now gave me a different impression.

Anyhow, I don't disagree w/ anything you've said here. It's all ratings driven nonsensical pandering to their base of viewers.
