I heard about this on the news. I don't know why they bothered to chop it. The fact that they are test firing missles that can reach Isreal is bad enough on it's own.

There is no "fact". Only what they say it can do. And them PS pictures to hide a failed launch puts into question they can do anything they say they can do.

Lets be careful here. Their missile technology seen in Basra, Sadr-City, and Lebanon during the last few years. The Israeli Army was surprised at the accuracy and improved targeting capabilities of Hezbollah(Iranian) missiles. Chinese missile technology sold to Iran is well documented as well as their purchases from Russia and North Korea.

why am i wondering why the Iranians are happy to actively create such an impression?

they didnt have to release any pics, ..., they didnt have to photochop any in this fashion

are they trying to to discourage or encourage an attack?

Or is the sound of sabre-rattling all round giving various ppl 'wood' & they're forgetting the point od sabre-rattling in the first place?
Isn't it all a bit 'WW1 run up'?
