Hugo Chavez is a huge jackass

He went into a church in Harlem and called Bush the devil, an alcoholic, etc. That's just plain classless. What head of state goes into another country and begins to take cheap shots at that country's president inside his own country?

I don't fault him for anything he said at the UN...it's a meeting of an international body and he can say whatever he wants...but going out into the community, speaking directly to the population, and making crass remarks about the President?

Should this jackass even be allowed in the country? Is there any extent to which a visiting head of state can offend the country where he is no longer welcome? If so, wouldn't this be it?

Dude... the guy's a nutcase. Do you take the crazy person on the street corner seriously when he says the world will end soon? Just because Chavez is the leader of a country doesn't mean he's not crazy. I think Americans see that, and we're all just saying "yeah, ok buddy" and not paying much attention.

We shouldn't even be bothering to report on his actions, but it is kind of funny

Good for a laugh if nothing else.

What if he weren't the head of another state? What if he were just a plain old regular guy? Would you still not approve of what he said?

I agree, talking like that in the church is bad form, but they invited him there to speak.

I don't think he's crazy. I think he's an intentionally controversial speaker for dramatic effect, but from reading the substance of the speech at the UN, I wouldn't say he's crazy. I think he's just a classless jackass who's behaving like a child instead of a head of state...he's like the drunken friend you invite over, and it's all fun and games until he starts grabbing girls tits and pissing on your rug, then you have to throw him out.

If he were a regular guy, I wouldn't give two shits what he said...he could say Bush is a closet homosexual with a penchant for underage Vietnamese boys...whatever...it's that Chavez was invited into the country as a head of state and has abused his welcome by behaving in an utterly classless way. I'd be shitting on Bush the same way if he behaved similarly in another country.

He was invited to speak, yes, but Chavez exercised no discretion and showed zero class in his behavior. By the way, the fact that this took place in a church is irrelevant to me, although I suppose it's an aggrivating factor.

I think you take him too seriously.

And just because he may be intelligent doesn't mean he's not crazy. Just because he may be a good politician doesn't mean he's not crazy. None of those are mutually exclusive (although, intelligence and being a politician is just about mutually exclusive

)

He's just some dude controlling a small country in South America who LOVES media attention.

I love this thread. One of the leaders who is buddy-buddy with all other other dictators around the world, does the same thing as Iran's leader, and now that some of the dems start bashing him, everyone here starts calling him a 'jackass' and saying 'nobody takes him seriously'...

What's wrong with you people? I've been saying this for a long time now about both him and Iran's leader...this is just pathetic. A bunch of sheep following what Pelosi and Rangel finally have the balls to admit.

How can you say nobody takes him seriously? Castro takes him seriously. Iran's leader take him seriously. Latin America loves him and takes him seriously. Doesn't that matter?
