| Obama calls for ending reliance on foreign oil AP - Barack Obama says the U.S. economy is in turmoil and it's time to end the nation's reliance on foreign oil. The Democratic candidate for president tells an high-school gymnasium audience in the rust-belt city of Youngstown, Ohio, that putting the economy back on course will require "all hands on deck efforts." Obama has proposed a $1,000-per family energy rebate to be paid for by a tax on excessive energy-company profits. Ohio is a bellwether state. It has voted for the winning candidate in all 11 presidential elections since 1964, including handing President Bush a close re-election victory in 2004. Obama sought to liken Republican rival John McCain to Vice President Dick Cheney, a former oilman. source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080805/ap_on_el_pr/obama [link] | ||||
