California Democrat Nancy Pelosi may be trying to save the planet — but the rank and file in her party increasingly are just trying to save their political hides when it comes to gas prices as Republicans apply more and more rhetorical muscle. But what looks like intraparty tension on ...

| Is this for real? v.pelosi urging democrats to lie
This is the same lady that preached making government transparent, and being open and honest with the american people and now this? Yet the media isn't really picking it up? What the hell is going on? This is absurd and should be front page news of the major papers you'd think. But not a word on the nightly news. Urging members of congress to say whats necessary to get elected is the same shit that was happening in 2002/2004 and hopefully the american people are smart enough to see through it this time. Unfortunately I'm not really sure who we have to choose from. All we can really hope for at this point is gridlock. First, look at the timing. It is done after she has closed the House for summer. And she's going to continue to block the vote regardless of what they support. The underlying problem is that there is a good number of Blue Dog Democrats or Democrats in districts where they can't go against the GOP on oil here because, well quite frankly the majority of America doesn't agree with Pelosi. The Democrats picked up a lot of new seats that could go either way in November and if they don't pick the right side on energy they'll lose the seats. They've kept their mouths shut publicly up until this point, but they've expressed their views to GOP officials expressing their problems with Pelosi and their constituents. So what Pelosi is saying here basically is: Now that the GOP didn't get their votes and she's shut down the House for the next 7 weeks or so they can go ahead and speak publicly about oil exploration if it will save them their seats. Pelosi's strategy right now is to wait this out until November because she doesn't want to compromise with the Republicans. She feels Obama will win in November and the Democrats will pick up even more seats. Then they can pass whatever energy bills they want. So she's stalling the votes and won't even allow the idea of a compromise until after the elections. It's similar to her strategy of waiting until the last week to present all of the budget bills so they can add all the pork and pet projects in the world and the GOP couldn't vote against it unless they wanted to shut down the government (which the media would blame them for). It's a way for her to control the legislation and get her own way. Pelosi is being overly calculating and behaving much like a Tyrant in the House. It's funny how she accuses Bush of the same.
