They obviously had proof. They were right. Have they accused every candidate of an affair and just got lucky with Edwards? Nope. They had evidence, staked him out, and he admitted it.

Hell, now it's even looking like he might have done some illegal things for her. It is looking like her job as a "videographer" was given to her so she could be with Edwards on all his trips. He was paying her $15,000 a month and one of his friends was letting her stay in a multi-million dollar home. Not looking good...

and it didn't end there like it could have...they continued investigating and dug and found evidence of more and more and more.................gee, sounds familiar. NE didn't report on his affair when they overheard someone say it. They investigated, saw evidence, talked to witnesses, staked him out, and reported FACTS with corroborating PROOF.

what other stories do anything but that?

Watch the nightly news or read a "reputable" newspaper and most of the stories would be written the exact same way. Why hold NE to a higher burden of proof?

Based on an actual event with proof. The Edwards "affair" isn't stopping with him admitting the affair...now it goes off towards his financial dealings. When the Enquirer reported it, they didn't have the Edwards confession as proof. They had a single PAID person feeding them rumors. WAY different than Watergate.

A source said Bush's commanding officer thought he was unfit for duty and had forged documents to prove it. The media sure did jump all over that one. The Enquirer did a better job than ABC and Dan Rather in comparison.

A "source" has to provide PROOF to a LEGIT news source BEFORE they print a story. If the Enquirer received such proof from this source, where is it? The Dan Rather shit had proof...but it was falsified proof. Still...there was at least something.

And you are right. The NE is a gossip rag, not a news rag. But sometimes, like this time, gossip becomes news when the gossip is found to be true.
