What do the military and their families think of Bush's torture stance?

So Bush wants to allow abusive interrogation...but I'm curious what the military and their families think of this. This is a group of people which usually gets behind Bush, but then again, it's they and their family members who are more likely to be tortured themselves because of his decision. Any polls? Any insights? Any effect on the upcoming election?

Some of my friends have Husbands who are in the military, and they have told me that they don't understand why this tortue issue needs to be like, "defined" for him...like, that Geneva says we aren't supposed to, and they see it that if America is going to do it, other countries will end up possibley doing it to their husband's ten times worse.

I believe this is a valid worry for them.

I am not about to tell a Mother with a Husband overseas,

"LOL @ YOU! He is already in that risk!!!!!! HAHAHA, Geneva doesn't apply to your husband! LOL LOL"

Instead I say, "He'll come home safe, so we hope."

There is a saying about good breeding good. That the way you want to be treated, that's how you treat others.

I tell my son that just because someone is mean to him, doesn't mean he gets to be mean back.

Ardent has a point.

You should say that all the time.

There is a saying about good breeding good. That the way you want to be treated, that's how you treat others.
There is a saying about war. That war is hell.

I tell people when about to get in a fight, hit first, and hit hard.

Nothing will make them stop doing it. We should do what is necessary to make us safer or to give us the advantage.

I don't?

War is certainly hell. Good point.

However, the people making this decision, aren't the people who are on the ground and possibley availble for torture.

No person ever making decisions for war is on the ground or available for torture.

I think wives of soldiers I know want to see the people who aren't fighting, but sending their Husband's to potentially die, do everything they can to ensure they are A) fighting for a cause that's worth fighting (and they tell me they aren't sure what that even is anymore.) B) That they are also doing everything they can to protect our soldiers.

One of my girlfriends had told me that she hated the way that her Dad was treated in Vietnam. The attack he was under, and how the people hated it that he was there. And she said, that if America is the pillar of what's good and evil, we need to show that through our own actions in how we treat people, including people fighting us.

The thread is about how people related to soldiers feel, this is how someone I know, with a relationship with a soldier, feels.

Do you seriously think our government would ever send troops to die without thinking it a worthy cause. Do you really think that our government ever does everything in its power to keep soldiers from dying?

Have you ever thought that information obtained from enemy combatants (through 'torture' or whatever you consider torture) would actually save lives?

This isn't about what I think. This is about what families of service members think.

See Post #1.

as a soldier with a combat job I know that military families know that their loved one stands a 90% chance of being tortured if captured. I support the admins view. I'm not saying to electocute enemies balls and stuff. but they should be able to use forceful tactics to gain information.
