Ohio voting law may be a boon for Obama supporters By PHILIP ELLIOTT – 9 hours ago COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Never mind the last days of the presidential campaign. The busiest days for Barack Obama's campaign in this perennial swing state are likely to be a month before Election ...

| Ohio tries to make it easier to vote, Republicans cry foul
I think early voting, and same day registration is fantastic. It should be easy to register, it should be easy to vote, and if for some reason you've forgotten or been apathetic in the past, you should be able to do both on the same day as election day You shouldn't be denied your right to vote simply because you didn't register before election day when it's completely possible thanks to computers and the internets to quickly and easily manage huge lists of information I understand why the Republicans are crying foul. This obviously is an amazing opportunity for Obama to pick up votes from a demographic that has been historically absent on election day.. and with his campaign's amazing GOTV effort that we've seen during the primaries, this could put Ohio in his column easily, drastically changing what McCain would need to have a real shot at the election.. not to mention the exit polling could depress McCain-voter turnout elsewhere if there was speculation that Obama had done significantly well in Ohio. The one thing I have a problem with is that it's not going to be available everywhere in Ohio. It should be, and I don't quite understand why it's right now limited to certain areas that traditionally favor Democrats (ie: urban)..

Same day registration is fine if you can give proof of your ID and where you live and everyone is allowed to do it. But of course, the Democrats think showing an ID is racist

| Uh, that's pretty much what I said. It's limited to urban areas, and it shouldn't be. I don't understand why though. I haven't seen a link to the law. I think students should be allowed to vote in the state in which they go to school if they pay taxes there | ||||

| just another case of democrats thinking changing the rules will benefit them so they're willing to change the rules. if it was going to benefit mccain they wouldn't be doing it. | ||||

| they should vote in the state where they have legal residence. if they go to school out of state and change their legal residence to where they're going to school, great. if they don't then they should vote in their home state. | ||||

| Yeah, but regardless of who it benefits this election, it's a positive development for people who want to vote There's no reason it shouldn't be possible to register to vote and vote on the same day.. I think NC has something similar | ||||

| I told you why. "Well, because Democrats don't want areas that aren't as likely to vote Democrat to be able to do it. It says it right in the story." Why are you baffled about it? It's just like the Florida recount. They only wanted to recount ballets in Democratically strong area's. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why! (and by the way, I misspelled genius 3 times before I got it right ) As do I. But with a valid ID. | ||||

| yes. around every election time someone in Mass tries to pass a law requiring an ID to vote and it keeps getting shot down because "everyone doesn't have an ID" or "it will intimidate a certain segment of people and keep them from voting." it's bullshit. if you don't have an ID what's to keep you from voting more than once? it's the exact same issue as the time they forced the uniformed cop to move away from the polling center. they said he was intimidating people.......... uh, who? felons? THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE! | ||||

one time I was standing there and she was flipping through pages to get to my name and I could see pages and pages of names of people who hadn't voted. if I wanted to there would have been no problem going outside, changing my shirt, and coming back in to vote as someone else........probably more than once. even if I hadn't registered I could have walked up and said "joe jones" and she would have flipped through the pages and I would have seen other names to use when I came back later.

I am sorry, if someone can't get a free government issued ID, I don't know how they managed to register to vote or will show up to vote.
