I don't think we create terrorists, there is a faction of Muslims that are heavily armed and want to the US harm. We have just made it easier for them to attack us by coming to Iraq

I don't see how you could think this, but this difference of opinion is probably at the heart of why you and I disagree about Iraq.

From what I understand, their motivation for hating us is rooted in the fact that we have our troops stationed near mecca and that we support rulers that are not very democratic, like in Saudi Arabia. They don't just hate us for no reason. I hope that someday we as a people can take a good hard look at the real reasons that they hate us instead of just blindly assuming that they hate us "just because."

What needs to be stressed again in this thread is that there is NO official dissent. All sixteen agencies agree. Not one disagrees.

This is bad news for everyone. Bad, bad news. Anyone trying to spin this into a positive has got quite an uphill battle. I kind of look forward to finding out how the right wing talking heads will try and spin this one tomorrow. If I could listen to Hannity without projectile vomiting, I would, just to see how he can try and tap dance around this one.

I agree with you. Until we fully understand and attempt to understand the root of their issue (which is not necessarily EVIL), then we will never solve this problem.

I think there is some discrepancy there. Many of us will admit that the Iraq war has worsened the terrorist threat. But I don't think that can really be extrapolated into saying staying there makes the world less safe. I disagree with the decision to go to war in Iraq. That said, leaving the country to religious fanatics won't help anyone. I think we've seen muslims as a whole are willing to embrace western, more liberal lifestyles and media, but their leaders are not. If Iraq, from here out, can be a success in establishing a western style democracy, it will be a severe blow to Islamic fundamentlism (and accordingly make the world a safer place). All we need now is a good propaganda machine to get them drinking cola and watching American Idol .

they = we

We are just as suseptable as they are. Documents can change, stories can change, leaders have motives....

It can happen anywhere, not just the Middle East.
