Anyone wanna bet how long it'll take Google to buy them out?

Have it installed on two of my computers now (work desktop and work laptop). So far, it's freakin' solid.

what about security and encryption? it seems they're saving versions of files........... could they decrypt them and get the files I'm sharing with myself?

There's always that potential. Some people have been REAL wary of these types of services for a while because of that. However, it's up to you what you put on there.

If you're scared of that sort of thing, don't put in files containing personal info. But the potential for the service, even without that, is quite awesome.

AES-256 encryption, I'd think it's pretty solid?

I think so too, but some people will never be convinced.

my question is, when MPAA and RIAA get subpoenas and give them to dropbox, is dropbox going to be able to tell them what you're sharing?

Ah, I see.

Probably, although how can they tell you're not using legal MP3's? And they'd need cause to look into your files (no matter where you store them).

Well, the real question is whether or not the encryption is something where they have access to some kind of master encryption key, or whether or not it's going to be based off your password, which they shouldn't have access to.

I've been waiting for someone to do this for years. The online storage box is an old idea. Integrating it with the shell, though...
