| Interesting observation about US media and the coverage we recieve In the rest of the world this week, readers of Newsweek were presented with a vastly different cover of their magazine than those living in the United States were. ![]() I'm not suggesting that it's limited to Newsweek, far from it. I've pointed out in the past that the coverage we recieve here in the US has to go through all sorts of bullshit lobbies in order to make it to us, leaving us with an extremely sanitized view of certain events, or places, etc. I believe it can be readily seen in the difference in type, depth, and scope of coverage of events on say, the BBC compared to CBS. Anyway, I just thought this picture was, well, striking. What do you guys think? | ||||

| In a related story; The presentation and "running" of stories on all major news networks are decided by the corporate boards -- in finality it is not the journalists. Control of the media is objectively by corporations, not by the respective sources that should be in charge, the ones whom have the experience and some sense of accountability. It really is quite sad these things are decided by those only interested in money and capitol rather than journalistic truth and integrity. | ||||

| I think its ridiculous, however I am not going to call it outrageous specifically because we've heard this "Taliban rising" before in 2004, and 2005...its certainly worse everytime but I don't think the US will ever let the Taliban gain back control, its just a matter of Afghanistan going from a possible success story to a reduced threat With that $300 billion we spent on Iraq, we could have turned Afghanistan into a wonderful state, but we blew it, the story is already over, the people are turning from us and I don't see anyway that can change at this point with our troops and money in Iraq for at least the next two years, and by that time I think its too late | ||||

| They obviously cater to their markets, but i have to say I agree that they need to focus more on afgan. If we dont get our shit together we're gonna find ourselves on the defensive in multiple countries on multiple fronts. NOT a good thing. We need another 50k troops in afgan in my UNPROFESSIONAL opinion | ||||
