| Fish tank crew (if there is one) *pics There is a fad going around in the wonderful world of marine aquariums, so i thought i would partake in the partay. They are called cubes, or nano-cubes. JBJ is one manufacturer of these tanks, i think they were the first. In this case I have purchased a Oceanic Bio-cube. They come in sizes of 8, 14, and 25-29 gallons. They call them "nano" because they are generally small for marine tanks. Normally a saltwater tank is 55+ gallons. The cube I have purchased is 29 gallons. I think they are popular because they can be setup for reasonable money, but you still get the saltwater fishies. Anyway mine has been setup for approximately 6 weeks. I added my maroon clown from a different tank a few days ago. Other than him I have 3 peppermint shrimp, 7 blue leg hermit crabs, 2 astria snails, and 1 turbo snail. I plan on putting a lawnmower blenny in there, some sort of goby, and maybe 2 more other small fish, or 1 more larger. I also plan on tossing a bubble tip anenome in there for the maroon. There is 22lbs of live rock and 26lbs of live sand. Here are some pics... Pic is self explanatory. Its the front. The stand doors appear slightly opened because i have 2-5 gallon jugs of RO/DI water for changes under there and they both barely fit. ![]() My roommate has his name plate from one of the jobs he was fired from on the floor. Some of you may know him as "cashishift" from OT. ![]() At night with the "moon" led lights on ![]() Hood has 2 switches for each light, plus 2 cooling fans for the lights. Each light is 36 watts, 1-10k and 1 Actinic ![]() Filter area in the "nano-cubes" is integrated in the tank and is part of the total volume. So the 29 gallon tank has roughly 25 gallons of display. In the filter are bio-balls for the center and on the right is a piece of carbon filter media. On the far left is the return pump. ![]() This is my maroon clown. He is a goof ball. He picks up sand in his mouth, spits it out, and then pushes it into a pile with his tail. (said pile of sand not pictured) ![]() Some may notice the aptasia on there. There is only 2 that are decent sized and another 3 that are really small. Hopefully they do not spread GRRR. The peppermint shrimp are supposed to eat those kind of things... but it appears they like the flake and mysis shrimp food better. ![]() ![]() | ||||

| that looks really cool dude. How much did you pay for the live rock? I was thinking about going marine, but the live rocks I was looking at were awfully expensive | ||||

That includes changing like 20% of the water every 5-7 days. Also, totally uncured can bring some good hitchhikers, but it can also bring the bad.
So i just figured... F it and spent a little more with a little less to worry about.

RO/DI water is only 40 cents a gallon and is a must to keep the nasty green stuff down. Tap water has phosphorus in it..and the slimy green stuff loves phos.

| nano reefs are really expensive and any change in the water will immediately be noticed by your tank's inhabitants. you really have to know what you're doing. looks great so far... good luck | ||||

| hah. I tried once with a 2.5 gallon and 18 watts of light. I could keep a chunk of live rock, some mushroom rock, and thats about it. Soon as you tossed even the smallest of fish in there it was hosed. I am thinking i could have put maybe 2 sexy shrimp in there and a hermit. Now that tank was converted to a home for a betta. | ||||

| I was given a 50 gallon tank, but it's made of glass and was meant for freshwater, so it would be rather difficult to turn it into a marine tank. I thought about sumping the water down to the filtration system, but I dunno... Maybe one day. | ||||
