Right, but the only problem is the potential for inaccurate information...like some shady net company offers background checks and gets you fired wrongly. That's not really an issue if you go down to city hall and check yourself. But the FCRA addresses those concerns.

It's always technically possible to have inaccurate information, but surely you realize a world of difference between the potential for errors in city hall's records vs. flybynightrecords.com's half assed attempt to gather info.

It's hardly petty. There are 11tybillion internet sites offering background checks, and no one knows how accurate these places' info is. At any rate, business is not discontinued. The FCRA simply puts some rules in place to prevent injustice.

But like I said, practically speaking, you don't have to follow the FCRA's rules if you're a small business because no one will ever know you did the background check...this is only a problem for HR departments at large businesses, as it should be, because their procedures affect thousands of lives.
