I made the mistake of looking at my 401K today

yeah, i knew i shouldn't have, but I did and did a "holy shit"..... basically lost a quarter of what I've put into it in the last 7 years or so..... pretty bad. i'm curious to see if others have succumbed to looking as well and what their damage was....

Now's the time to make sure you're maxing it out. Additionally, it's the time to start buying into mutual funds. Everything is on sale!

Don't do it if you're over 60 though... it would suck to be nearing retirement right now.

yeah I looked too. Everything is down. But it's just paper. 529 plan is about 20% down, 401K is way down. Everything. but It's not money I need now, or even in 10 years. It's paper loss. If I had more money I would be buying up stocks. GM for 5 bucks a share? Fuck! They aren't going under, and in 10 years they will back up again.

shit don't do it if you are over 50.

But yeah everything is cheap. If you don't have money to buy extra... rebalance! If you havn't you will probably be heavy into your fixed income portion and simply rebalancing will help you out a ton in the future,.

I guess I'm glad I invest in things like ammunition and solar panels. Sorry to hear you guys (& gals) losing hard-earned dough. It's not over, though. The government has in mind to spend A LOT more of our money. They're going to need to fund their golden parachutes for the world elite bankers.

I'm hoping it's going to stay low until I get paid so I can buy in low to balance out the loss here at this point.

It's still low and still has some downward movement to go. Don't let Monday's 986 point swell confuse you, the market has not turned around yet.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's going to go back down for awhile. But, I'm hoping it'll be back down closer to where it was at the most recent low when I buy in instead of up in the mid 9000's ..that way over the long term the shit I invest now is that much higher.

I'm also wondering about buying company stock directly at this point. I think GM was selling for around $6?

Say what you want about their business practices, I don't think they're going to be going anywhere.. $6 seems like a steal.

I can stand to weather out the current volatility, so looking at individual companies is something I'm considering.
