| Bring us your children! v.great new law So because of this new law we have dipshits from Iowa, and now michigan coming to our hospitals to drop off their children of a variety of ages. Another teen dropped at Omaha hospital - Life - MSNBC.com What is wrong with our country? Their only warning is "getting custody in return may prove difficult." There is no accountability for the parent doing the dropping off, so people can do it whenever they want without fear of legal charges. No child abandonment, no nothing. More importantly I think this goes to show what would happen with other state legislation should we not have any on the federal level...examples... This would happen under John McCain's healthcare plan, allowing customers to go from state to state, so all the healthcare companies would move to the state with the least requirements...screwing us on our coverage. This would happen if Rowe v. Wade was over turned and some states allowed abortions while other states didn't. Those that could afford it would drive to neighbor states and then those states would get the lovely reputation and sight of having abortion clinics every where to meet the increase demand. States that allow gay marriage vs. those that do not.. To be a little more specific...every state has some form of the law... our law just doesn't have any stipulations. | ||||

| I find it a bit disturbing. These aren't ppl dropping off unwanted newborns, as I'm sure the law was intended for. Geez, I can't imagine what is going through this woman's head, and her daughter's.. Detroit to Omaha is not a short trip. | ||||

| It goes to show you that not everyone should be a parent, like what Kytro said. One doesn't really know what type of environment he came from; he could well be better off.

I think it is great to provide a method for kids to escape abusive homes, however some of these instances are just where a parent simply gives up. Nearly every family goes through a tough time, but there needs to be an obvious line between what is too tough and when they should just man up. Clearly if they are getting abused, its a obvious situation. If they just argue with their parents a lot they should work through the issue instead of using this method to get rid of their kid.
Secondly this law has no consequences for the parents that may be doing the abuse. If they are beating the crap out of someone they should face the legal consequences. If they drop off their kid they should at least forfiet any right to gain custody back...as obviously they aren't fit to be a parent. For reducing abortions, education is the main thing. I would even support those under legal age requiring parental consent. If they aren't responsible enough to buy cigarettes and beer, they probably aren't responsible enough to raise a child or make that decision without the guidence of their parents. They aren't even supposed to go to rated R movies by themselves. | ||||
