No, the smoking ban was about people walking into places where they knew they would encounter smoke, and the complained.

I don't go to a rock concert and complain about the loud music. It's as stupid as that.

Tabacco isn't legal for minors. And trans fats aren't forced down your throat without your selection of them. You don't want trans fats? Order a salad. You don't want cigarette smoke.. an illegal drug for children all over your family.. stay at home.

There's a difference. You had no choice but to stay home with cigarette smoke. With trans fats you can still go out and have a choice.

Nobody was forcing buisnesses to allow smoking. If there was a demand for non-smoking places, they would exist (which they do). To say you are forced to stay at home is silly, as is even bringing up the fact that minors can't buy tobacco. That has no bearing on the conversation. Minors also can't drive. Does that mean they shouldn't be allowed around cars?

No its not, if I go to a restaurant and sit in a NO smoking section that means it should be NO FUCKING SMOKING.

If I'm walking down the street to work, to class, anywhere I shouldn't be subjected to someone else's bad habbits. A habbit that could negatively affect my health.

If I go to a bar I know what to expect, I dont have a problem with that. But these people that light up whenever and wherever they feel like it are showing a complete lack of respect for others and endangering the health of others.

If I go to a restaurant I choose what I'm ordering off the menu. If I go to chili's and order their chicken tenders ( :yum: ) I know what I'm getting. I'm not at the same time dumping grease on everyone else's plates and in their drinks. Someone smokes at the table next to me because they're accross some imaginary line that shit still affects me and it affects me negatively.

Actually thats not true for a long time businesses were forced to have BOTH smoking and non smoking.

Some were forced to have a smoking section IF they allowed smoking. None were forced to allow smoking. There were (and are) plenty of non smoking places where there is no law they must be so.

We are way off subject.

:sigh:

Car emissions are bad for you, yet I don't see you demanding people stop driving down the streets. Secondhand smoke dangers have been exagerated. It an outdoor setting there is almost no exposure, so that "walking down the street" thing is BS.

Have you ever tried asking someone to put out a smoke when they were smoking in a place they shouldn't? No? Ever tell the manager? Ever not go back to that place again because you didn't like it?

Try no imposing yourself on people. If you don't like smoke, don't go to places that allow it. If you think there is a market for non-smoking places, open a resteraunt. You will have the market cornered.

I am concerned about this being a slippery slop into banning personal foods. But it is quite possible there is validity to this measure. If local restaurants were putting a small amount of poison in every burger you ate because it preserved the meat better, you would want that to be illegal. Not saying this necessarly the issue with trans fat, but few argue FDA requirements at restaurants. IF trans fat is truely that hazardous to your health, and you don't really know it when you order fries ( no amount of labels in the world would change that), then it is as good an idea as say, banning lead paint.

This is why I disagree; people aren't forced to eat/drink/hang in places where smoking is allowed. They are just as free to avoid it as the smokers should be to smoke. If it's children you're afraid of, how are you gonna stop that anyway? The public smoking ban doesn't even affect them.

Why can't we make french fries anyway we want? Why can't we eat big fatty steaks? Why can't we eat trans fats? Why can't we buy french fries with trans fats if we want to? They taste so yummy. If they want to force something on people, force them to exercise so they can eat trans fats.

I am just trying to say, that I'd like to have the choice. And I'd like to be an informed consumer, and I honestly have no idea if there are transfats in my kitchen right now...

Considering the danger they can pose to my health, I'd like to be aware of what I'm putting in my body.
