Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for president

WASHINGTON – Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president, describing the Illinois senator as a "transformational figure."

Powell says both Obama and Republican John McCain are qualified to be commander in chief. But, in an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," he said Obama is better suited to handle the nation's economic problems as well as help improve it's standing in the world.

Powell expressed disappointment in the negative tone of McCain's campaign, as well as in his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee. Powell says he does not believe Palin is ready to take over as president, if necessary.

I have always respected him, though I think he is wrong on this. He is choosing to ignore his background and how he spent his life, and instead got caught up in Obamania.

Its interesting to note that Motivez wanted Powell over Obama:

To the person that left me a negative rep from the previous post:

I included this in because I did a search on another board about Obama and Powell just to see what people have said about him, because I was thinking now Obama fans will judge him much more favorably because he is voting for their guy. So I did the search and that little gem was returned.

Don't you think you are making some pretty big assumptions? someone who has demonstrated excellent judgement, intelligence and composure over so many years has suddenly been caught up in "obama mania".... Could it possibly be that he actually believes in his policies and principles?

What policies and principles did Powell say that he endorsed? Powell spent most of the time talking bad about the Republican Party and McCain.

I'm the person who left the rep - it has no relevance to the thread and further you are using a post Motivez made 2 1/2 years ago! I guess people are not entitled to change their mind after a couple more years of knowing a candidate?

Oh btw since you want to bring things up that have nothing to do with the thread, when Motivez posted that Sarah Palin was Governor of Alaska for 6 months - was she expierienced to be VP by then?

it had something to do with this thread because the comment was about Powell and Obama.

Sarah Palin is not qualified to be President, I don't like her and I wish that McCain hadn't picked her. But we have been over that 10x times

That was more 2 years ago.. times change and new information is available in the decision making process that wasn't available then.

I still think Powell would make an excellent President, he has lots of experience and aside from being bullied into supporting the Administration on the WMD thing, he seems to have a mind of his own.
