...oh, and even if they were, that's actually supports reasoning behind electing Obama. Maybe with a black president, there just might be fewer drive by shootings, at least fewer drive by shootings done by black ppl, since having a black man president, might just inspire more black ppl to rise above such stupidity. Did you ever think about that? No, you didn't, since you're still thinking that pretending that racism doesn't exist will actually make it somehow go away.

So all Europeans are the same race? How about middle-easterners? They have a roughly sandy color to their skin. Isn't calling somebody a dirty wetback a racist remark? Isn't that only in relation to mexicans? How are these two ideals mutually exclusive?
I said American is not a race. Mainly because we're all other races mixed in. The only American race is Native Americans and the government wiped them out.

Divide us? Like... calling a certain candidate an Arab? Alluding to him being a terrorist, or terrorist sympathizer? Or calling out his plan as being socialistic, or at least with tinges of socialism? That kind of division?
Yeah, that's what I was talking about, politics. Let it go for once man.

Your post lost me. However, I understand your last statement. I believe racism exists. I also believe it's a horrible thing that has no place in a civilized society. However, automatically assigning racism as a motive to anything involving a black person is absurd. Get the facts first before pulling the race card. It is rude and uncalled for in the say way that it would be rude for me to assume that because a white man's home was shot up it was done by a black person. There's no evidence either way, you're just making assumptions and pulling the race card because it fits your agenda and world view. There's a problem with that mentality.

No it won't. And it won't because those same idiots will claim that "the man" still has all the money and power so I can't get ahead. They will point to the fact that Obama has a white mother and grandmother and say that's how he got over on the system.

Believe me, you will not see any serious reduction in crime perpetrated by black people if Obama wins. At least not for long.

GOP HQ Manager's home was shot up by some Obama supporters. Can we insinuate a racist act through this? Or how about the fact that he claims to have "taken about 300 calls concerning stolen or vandalized McCain signs in the area."

As Wonderland said, you can't assign race as a motive to this. Doing so is jumping to conclusions. Vandalism over political issues like this happens every election year. Obama supporters have to stop pulling the race card everytime he's treated like everyone else. It's not helping him.
What?
It is the Republican's assumption that he was targeted because of his sign. Yet, the signs weren't destroyed...

The Republican manager said he is convinced he was targeted because of new McCain signs he added around his home.
So, he adds McCain signs, some kids roll by with a pellet gun (yes, a pellet gun), and shoot his house. He then likens it to democrats stealing yard signs, while his were still intact.

He then insinuates the people were Obama supporters, and were OBVIOUSLY mad because the neighborhood is somewhat republican.

Is this seriously your best effort?

So Mexico doesn't have white people? Or black people for that matter? They are all Mexicans, and when they jump the border they are stereotyped into one group, which is "racist"?

Let what go? The ridiculous claims and remarks made by and on behalf of McCain's campaign? Remarks that had not even a seed of truth? Remarks that eventually end up KILLING people?

Yeah, sure, let's just put those behind us. Don't take them seriously. They are just words, huh? I mean, words never hurt anybody, right?

Is Mexico a melting pot like the USA is?

Sorry, United states of America.

What I was saying you should let go is the political side of every single post. I wasn't talking about politics at all. Just about different races and how I believe that being an American is not a race and that seperation by race, except for medical challenges, is radically stupid.

But instead, you took it straight to some of the things that have been said about Obama that have been offensive. I wasn't even in that realm of thinking and neither was my post. That's what you need to give a rest every now and again.

Are you intelligent? that has been established. Do you have a handle on the issues? pretty much so. Do you have a decent understanding of political history? That has been established as well. But that doesn't mean you have to show it off in every single post on this forum.

Surprisingly it is, although not as much as the US is.

La Tercera::Icarito - Mexico: a cultural melting pot

Americans, as a country, started out as English. And in no particular order, many other european countries added citizens and of course slavery. This country was created as a melting pot. As a country where people were invited to come and enjoy freedom and liberty. That is generally not the case with the other countries you mentioned.

And please, don't go into the civil rights issues and things like that. I'm talking founding principles here.

Well, some would argue our founding principles only included freedom for white, property owning males.

Which ones were STARTED as a place of freedom and liberty. I know that most of them have developed into somethingi similar now.

Yeah, that was a really fucked up time. The issue split the Dem's into two halves and completely fractured the Whigs. The GOP filled in the gap originally supporting a progressive vision of national unity, building schools, cities, railroads, abolition of slavery, and even free land for homesteaders. Back in their early days they had pushed for high tariffs, prohibition, anti-trust laws, and the annexation of territories. These days they seem to oppose all of those things and some of them even want to secede from the union.

HughRuss, I just realized you never addressed this. I'm assuming then you don't feel it's relevant at all. Ok.

There weren't any uniform founding principles in the U.S and the idea that the U.S. was originally intended to be a "melting pot" is silly.

Most of the founders were quite wary of immigration, while some saw no need to discourage it, most saw no need to encourage it either, as many were very conservative when it came to culture.

Ben Franklin asked:
"Why should Pennsylvania, founded by the English, become a colony of aliens, who will shortly be so numerous as to Germanize us, instead of our Anglifying them, and will never adopt out language or customs any more than they can acquire our complexion?"

Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, Jay, and Washington all expressed similar disdain towards immigration and the "melting pot."

Right, Ben wanted them to assimilate to our culture while adding to the USA as a whole. Not waht we have now, with immigrants coming here and not learning english, civics or even being legal.

Ben said that they couldn't assimilate, just like they couldn't acquire a British complexion.
