| Same can be said for our soldiers captured in Iraq. It isn't about holding them forever. It's about taking terrorists and insurgents off the streets. In any war, if you capture the enemy you don't give them a punishment and then send them on their merry way to join the front lines again. We need a way of holding people during this war. I don't agree with the way it's being done, but until a better suggestion is made by Congress it's what we have to deal with. Where's the Democratic proposal on how to treat these prisoners? Where's the legislation? The Democrats pushed this on America. They backed our military and servicemen into a wall with no solutions and now they're crying when the inevitable happens. | ||||

Ugh you even pulled me off subject. Torture is truly the least of this bill! Basic Democratic rights are what is at stake here.

| it was the supreme court full of republican appointed judges, 4 of which are hard right wing conservatives, 1 is a general republican conservative, which forms a majority and im not comparing hitler to bush, i am just pointing out how ridiculous this situation is... I still can't get over how you have no problem with someone mistakingly thinking you are an enemy of the state, and you being raped, tortured and detained forever... but jesus christ, if someone talks about raising your taxes 1%, you'll throw a temper tantrum nice priorities | ||||

| The terrorists are winning. We are slowly giving up the very freedoms that this country was founded on in the name of fighting terrorism. The most important thing in our country ,behind the constituition itself, is the Bill of Rights. It is what separates us, or shall I say, separated, us from other more dictatorial countries. We are slowly making many of THE MOST IMPORTANT provisions in that bill subject to the approval of the president. How can anyone in any party possibly support this??? It's interesting how this thread is about habius corpus and all that jazz, yet the SAME people agree with Murtha and his handling of our soldiers. It's all the same crap. Is this legislation good? Hell no. But, it is the direct result of the liberal clammering. | ||||

and democrats "run their mouth and exploit issues in iraq" right... you take that one line from Murtha and you take it up like its part of the Democratic Party platform do you see me still yapping about Republicans who said people wanting a debate on government wiretaps are more interesting in protecting terrorists than Americans? Well i guess thats it, the Republican party officially thinks Democrats, about half the country, is more interested in protecting terrorists than Americans
