MBA at MIT

So I'm thinking about doing this; I know, I've already got my degree and all that shizzy, but I really want an MBA, and Sloan is a great school.

I wonder, if I were to go into industry, likely administration of some sort or biotech entrepreneurship, would an MBA be helpful in my position or will getting the degree be a waste of time?

Thoughts?

i think anything you receive from MIT will be more than beneficial, whether it be an MBA or a bruise on your knee.

What I tell everyone is that if you get an MBA that you pay for, you've wasted money. So many people are able to go back on their company's dime. Of course, I say the same thing for MOST masters. There are exceptions... a lot of sciences are useless without at least a masters (like biology, chemistry, etc...)

But hey, do whacha wanna do.

Well I've got my PhD already, and two years postdoc experience. I'd love an MBA so that I'll be more qualitifed for the industry; I"m really excited about it. The problem is, it's two more years I"m pushing working back. I want the cost/benefit analysis to be lookin good! I"ll be like 32 or 33 by the time I'm ready to really start working. But is it the difference of 100k starting with a PhD to 300k with a PhD and MBA? Or is it not that huge?

Sheana's dad does recruit placement for a lot of companies, and according to him 90% of the companies that he works with will take the applicant with an MBA over the other guy, all other things equal.

I don't know what bearing an MBA would have on you being able to conduct research for a company tbh, so it really seems like what type of position you see yourself wanting to get into.. and whether or not you'd ever want to become a part of managemet, etc.

I think upper management is the ultimate goal. I don't want to be a researech scientist forever; that gets old. I prefer entrepreneurship honestly, and I've got a few ideas floating around. I'm probably gonna enter the 100k competition this year.

As you know I think MIT is a fantastic school. Had to turn down a scholarship from them and still have second thoughts about it to this day. Since you're already in the area I say go for it. It will open so many doors it will be ridiculous. I'm getting my MBA right now and holy shit this last class period was perhaps the best 4 hrs of school I've ever had in my life. Man it was great.
