So I am watching FOX and what they are reporting is that McCain aides claim Sarah Palin didn't know the following:


1: What countries are involved in NAFTA
2: Thought Africa was a country and South Africa is an adjacent country.

I can't even find words to express how happy I am she'll be no where near any important national decisions. She's so ill informed I would have been more embarrassed with her election than I have been of Bush

She's just so ignorant that it is just shocking that anyone would think that she would be qualified to be Governor, let alone Vice-President or President. You just don't know if she has grasp of all the complex issues if she doesn't even know simple facts.

I've got to say, I'm pretty skeptical. I really don't like Palin, and I don't think she's particularly bright by any standard, but some of this seems too ridiculous to be true. I mean, I have a 5 year old nephew who probably knows Africa is a continent.

I can't believe that she didn't know Africa was a continent. The Nafta thing sounds a lot more probable. I didn't know until I started visiting this forum.

But come on, I've known Africa was a continent since I was 6. However, I do remember growing up that people always referred to "Africa" almost never to a country in Africa unless it was Egypt.

Not to discount her idiocy here or anything, but the Africa thing was likely just a mistake of wording. I've read reports that she responded to a question about Africa by saying "country of Africa" by accident and a reporter wrote it down and said she didn't know Africa was a continent. I know I've accidentally said the same thing before and I know Africa is a continent. I think the GOP is looking for a scapegoat now that the election is over and Palin with her inexperience, ignorance and gullibility is making a fine one.

Regarding another stinging criticism, Stapleton claims that the Fox News report Thursday -- that quoted unnamed sources inside the now defunct McCain campaign, saying Palin didn't know Africa is a continent -- was taken out of context.

Stapleton says that during a briefing session, someone asked Palin to explain the McCain-Palin stance on an issue, and as she was responding, "in the middle, she said, ‘country of Africa’ and somebody instantly wrote it down, and said, 'Oh, my God, she thinks it's a country.'"

But Stapleton insists, "She knows it's a continent. It was just a human mistake, just like Obama saying 57 states. I don't think anyone ever doubted that Obama knows there are 50 states."

All I know is McCain's aides once told us Palin was qualified and was the perfect person for the job. Now that the election is over they're blaming the whole thing on her... THEY vetted and picked her and sold her to America. It's their fault 100%. I'm actually enjoying the post-election bitterness to be honest, but I kinda think 99% of the blame belongs to McCain's campaign workers and 1% belongs to Palin no matter how bad she actually was. THEY picked her. THEY sold her to us. THEY dolled her up in clothes and force-fed her soundbytes to make her seem more intelligent than she was. When it backfired it's suddenly now her fault. I think this is all just a distraction from McCain's campaign and simply a scapegoat for the horrible, horrible campaign they ran. While I don't mind chuckling at Palin here, I think McCain's campaign aides need to stop blaming Palin and start blaming themselves for the horrendous campaign they ran.
