Does anyone else get the vibe from reading the emails that the kids were sort of into Foley hitting on them? I mean, you'd think the dialogue would be like:

Maf54: Hey, you spank off lately?
teen:

Maf54: Hello?>

teen has logged off...

But it's more like they're teasing each other, and the kid is being slightly shy. I'm really curious to know the sordid details of it all. Did Foley just have really good gaydar to pick out the bicurious teens? Or did he pick on the really vulnerable ones? It just strikes me as odd.

WASHINGTON - At least one former congressional page is disputing another former page's claims that pages were warned five years ago to beware of U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fort Pierce.

Matthew Loraditch, a page in the 2001-2002 class, told ABC News he and other pages were warned about Foley by a supervisor in the House Clerk's office. Loraditch, the president of the Page Alumni Association, said the pages were told "don't get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you and all that kind of stuff."

But another page, who asked not to be named told The Palm Beach Post, "The program in no official capacity warned us about it," and he said that Loraditch had posted an explanation for his comments to ABC on the college social network, Facebook.com.

Loraditch's Facebook.com statement said: "I have received several heated responses from my fellow pages about media involvement in the current situation. I want to respond with a few points and thoughts.

"Firstly, as to the ABC "Warned" story, while I may have inadvertently used the word, "warned," in communication, I can assure you it was not intended. The fact of the matter is in an informal situation a supervisor mentioned that Foley was a bit odd or flaky and did not connote by tone or otherwise that he should be avoided.

"Secondly as to talking out in general, . . . I don't think anyone can argue that protecting kids, pages, or whomever from sexual predators is anything but the most important of this whole saga. Nothing comes in front of the safety of the page program, not the page program, a member of congress, no one.

"Thirdly, I have stressed several key points in my contact with media that all situations with Mr. Foley occurred after we had finished our service as pages. That if anything had happed while we were in Washington, it would have been dealt with. That I have full faith and trust that any of the supervisors and staff we worked with would have properly dealt with any situation like the current one. That the page program is one of the most wonderful and educational experiences a youth can have.

"Fourthly, although not all of you know people who have had these horrible conversation with Foley, I do. And frankly that gives me all the more reason to speak out. . . .

"Finally, if i have hurt or offended anyone, I am sorry. And I love my page friends and I cherish my relationships with the page program staff, however fracture some of this may have made them. I want you all to know that I truly believe that I'm doing the best that I can do."

The other page said most pages are angry at Loraditch's comments and that the page program did its best to ensure the safety of pages, with strict rules and curfews.

Also Monday, the placard that once designated Foley's office was gone early this morning, two days after he resigned amid allegations of inappropriate communications with a minor.

Around 10:30 a.m., a congressional employee put up a new sign reading, "Office of the 16th Congressional District of Florida.

It makes me think, that if my 16 year old son isn't into old guys hitting on him via IM, that he would have the sense to

The idea that this kid didn't, and then responds back without disgust, makes me wonder if he was maybe experimenting with his own sexuality. As if maybe he was trying to figure out of this was something that he was into, after all, a man of stature and power, it is a little flattering....

I can see the other side of this also.

Maybe they were terrified of offending one of the most powerful Congressional leaders in the most powerful country on earth?

Besides...16 year olds are minors for a reason...they are 16...

I don't know. I am just saying that it can go both ways, and I haven't seen the kid asked on TV about this...so I don't know his side of the story.

He is a kid, Foley is a 48 year old man.

He's 16. I wouldn't consider him a kid. I'd consider him at the Young Man stage. For someone that age, it's no unbelievable for them to have sexual exposure...

I don't consider the age part the issue...

I consider the page/congressperson issue moreso. If that was against the rules, then he should be punished.

Man, this has turned into a real firestorm.

As sick and disappointed as the whole thing makes me feel as an American, as a news junkie who is endlessly fascinated with politics, it's very interesting how this scandal has really broken and taken off. We don't often see scandals hit this big and this quick.

I shoulda known this morning when I read the msnbc story online and they ran a little ad midway through featuring a little picture of a smiling Monica Lewinsky! Foleygate is in the major leauges now!

The only thing funny about this to me is that the other story the media turns to after Foley is the new Woodward book (already in it's 3rd printing on the day of release?!) It's a one-two punch for the GOP. Tough day to be a Republican.

I bet things will only get worse. Foley has been doing this, apparently, for years, and aggressively was trying to meet with the page. He's presumably done the same routine for years, and it's highly probable he actually succeeded in having sex with one (or more) of them. And if that happened, was the page likely to come forward? Hell no...he'd be the center of one of the biggest controversies in history and be "outed" as having had a gay relationship. Something tells me as the investigation moves forward, even worse discoveries will come to light.

I hope you're wrong, but realistically you're probably right. I want to believe Hastert and the rest, because I don't want to believe people that immoral and idiotic could really get that much power, and work together as a group to cover this up (if indeed they did.) It's damn scary.

I can deal with a bad apple. Foley is a sick man with a serious personal problem. Hastert and Co. can't rely on that explanation if they actually conspired to cover Foley up.

I agree. Let's face it, if you are 16 and a page, you have to be a pretty responsible kid. You aren't some immature 16 yo that does nothing but sit around playing PS2.

The IM's were disgusting, but the kid didn't seem to mind. If he did mind he could have just shown he was away or offline to Foleys account. It seems he liked it and wanted it to continue.

See, thats exactly what the last page did though...

He called them "sick sick sick" and didn't let them go to the sexual level, its possible he's done it enough times with enough pages that some where just too afraid of his power to go "YOU DIRTY OLD MAN FUCK OFF"

I have what I believe is the identity of the person that Rep. Mark Foley instant messaged.

I will be working on the story today and will present my findings tomorrow. I will put out a press release later today outlining what I will reveal on Wednesday October 4th at 4pm Central Time. I have contacted several bloggers to check my finding and verify that they are indeed accurate. I have also sent emails to major media and two United States Representatives.
