During Easter recess of 2005, both houses of Congress were called back into session in order to craft a law to keep one brain-dead woman alive against her husband wishes. We were treated to dramatic statements from Republican leaders on protecting the vulnerable among us and nurturing a "culture of life." The brush-clearing president rushed back from Crawford to pose for dramatic footage deplaning on the tarmac in the dark in order to sign the resulting bill. All this deep, deep concern about the fate of Terry Schiavo, of course, was funded by our taxpayer dime.

Here's a suggestion: Dennis Hastert needs to show at least the same amount of concern about the unknown number of minors entrusted to Congressional care in the page program. Call the House back into session under the same Rule 85 invoked for Schiavo. Demand that Congress pass the necessary resolutions to initiate an expedited investigation - a full investigation that encompasses all aspects of the Foley affair, from the initial "overfriendly" emails to the torrid IM's. Most importantly, discover precisely which Republican leaders knew about Foley, when they knew, who they chose to tell and not to tell, and what role each member of leadership played in the cover-up that harbored a sexual predator roaming free for five years in a den of idealistic minors.

Anything short of a full, immediate and unsparing look at the failure to protect our children will not satisfy.

I'm confused. The Democrats had the more sexual message but decided to hold it until it would cause the republicans the most damage? Is that what I was reading there?

The story was probably two weeks long, and all over DKos, the headline was just that he was a weirdo, but other bloggers on minor sites did their own digging around, right around last week people from around the internet and ABC news found enough information to make a story...

Democrats "sitting" on the story is

We were trying to dig up evidence all week until ABC exploded the story, the very graphic masturbation/cybersex messages came from ABC

What the website in question tries to...just forget it, its a waste of your time but if you want to read it all go ahead and ill respond if you have any questions

uh, not the progressive blogs, half of them were ready to quit the democratic party over this...really you are just speculating and its worthless to respond to...

I STILL hear people on Dkos say they aren't going to help GOTV because of the detainee bill, and other blogs are saying the same thing...yet they sat on this story? What BS

What you have (I was there everyday) were people bringing up the emails for a week or more trying to get attention to the story, that is what Dkos does...gets buzz on stories that would be overlooked, finally it broke and ABC got the TOTAL story with online sex acts...

To think the Lieberman-wing, Kos-wing, Dean-wing, Bayh-wing, Brown-wing, etc could ever sit on ANYTHING for more than 30 seconds is ridiculous, no progressive blogger agrees on anything...if it wasn't for loathing of the GOP leadership we'd all be strangling each other

So where did ABC get this from? The parents of the boy were contacted and they said all they wanted was for Foley to have no contact with their son ever again. They did not want to press charges (and I guess couldn't anyway since the age of concent in DC is 16) and wanted it to end there.

Now all the sudden ABC has the saved IM logs? How long ago did this happen?

(just read the full IM log. Yuck that is disturbing.....)

If you are going to post something from the past week, I'll tell you we've been trying to break this story for over a week, and its not a state secret the Dkos archives are open to all and never deleted or changed

Come up with long-term evidence of a real plot, and I'll respond...in the mean time

Well apparently there's two versions of the IM logs. The first one was the "Friendly" how old are you, picture, etc.

Then a day or two later ABC released the bad one.

The original emails were floating around the blogs for about a week but no one wanted to pay attention (outside the liberal blogosphere)

The sexual masturbation logs were first posted on ABCs website, how they got them...investigation...anymore details you'd have to ask them...probably the old trick of calling up all the pages who ever worked with Foley and questioning them hard

Yea it's old.

It seems obvious it was released for the election. Also the version that was apparently reported to Hastert was the first version. He reported that up the chain of command who just said it was overly friendly and told him to stop communication with the boy.

The entire situation smells of a timed scandal.
