Republican Congressman resigns today after sending sexual messages to 16 y/o boy

Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) planned to resign today, hours after ABC questioned him about sexually explicit internet messages with current and former Congressional pages under the age of 18.

A spokesman for Foley, the chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, said the congressman submitted his resignation in a letter late this afternoon to Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

Hours earlier, ABC News had read excerpts of instant messages provided by former pages who said the congressman, under the AOL Instant Messenger screen name Maf54, made repeated references to sexual organs and acts.

The full details will be included in a report tonight on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.

Foley can be replaced as the nominee, but his name remains on the physical ballot.
And, obviously, any new nominee would have to fundraise from scratch.

Im guessing he resigned because some of it was a bit to "friendly"

Emails above...seems like he was just overly friendly, and the kid got freaked; and these guys helped blow it out of proportion.

there are others that haven't been released, refer to OP

"made repeated references to sexual organs and acts."

and it was pages...plural...the first kid never got touched and really the emails were just weird not jail/resign-worthy...but apparently other pages came forward with worse ones...but they weren't touched either

the fact that no one got touched is why this is funny

can you do me one favor though, pretend this was some democrat you never heard of...like George Miller, and the story broke

If that truly is the case then, he should spend a few years in jail IMO. The dudes there will take care of him. Damn that's gross.
