As for how the application of habeas corpus is written in the new detainee bill scares the hell out of me because it suspends the theory of innocent until proven guilty and although it may only apply to terrorism cases, for now, it is still very dangerous to say it is okay to pick someone up and detain them without due process. It is a very dangerous precedence for this country to take and I do not think it is necessary. I am not so niave as to believe this could never be turned on Americans. | ||||

| I disagree we're not really crossing any lines that haven't been uncrossed at some point in the past. See the FISA act in the 70s. It did away with many of the same things the bush admin wants to readminister. Now I'm not saying that makes it right but what I am saying is it doesn't spell the end of the country as we know it. Things were pretty good in the 50s and 60s (despite the overshadowing of the soviet union). | ||||

| You worry too much, about the wrong things. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. There is however a clear and present danger; an enemy that hates you and everything you stand for. I think the problem with some people is that they dont actually understand the ferocity of this enemy. I know its hard for some folks to wrap their heads around that level of hatred and violence. A fanatic driven by what he believes to be the commandment of his god is far more dangerous than anything you can possibly imagine. By calling his deeds the work of god, he relieves himself from guilt or remorse. He will not shed a tear for you or your children as you lay bleeding to death amid the rubble of a bombed out theater or market, because he thinks its gods will. We are in danger, not in danger of losing our rights, but our lives. | ||||

| Congress has the right to amend the constitution even after a negative ruling by the Supreme Court to make whatever it was legal in the SC's eyes, unless it directly violates an article of the constitution. The SC simply interprets, Congress can actually rewrite or adjust as they see fit. | ||||
