Today in LA: Day of Atonement

I don't know much about the Jews or anything...so this question may sound slightly ignorant...

But, I was watching the news about today being a holiday, and the Mayor of LA, Antonia Villaraigosa, was at a synagogue and was wearing one of those skull cap things...

Is that like, OK in Judiasm? I mean, if it wasn't I'm sure there would have been outrages, and he's certainly not Jewish...

But, I'm just wondering if there are rules about that hat thing...

avsp is a jewel in the rough

its called a KIppah, apparently, ..., though I've always called it a yarmulke.

Kippah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The times I've been in synagogue I wore one,. It was almost absent-mindedly handed to me

I'm not jewish & it was a fleeting visit to what i believe was a fairly liberal establishment.

All males in the temple/cermony wear them. It is a sign of respect not religion.
