how would they be more innundated than they are with info for everyones 401k/retirement info that they already get? Make it like a 1099 and have the bank give a once/year statement with the account holder being responsible for taxes. If I sell stock I have to pay estimated taxes...why not do the same for wire transfers?

I don't know. I'm not sure how they would distinguish a normal wire transfer from gambling profits though. It would still be up to you to tell them that X dollars were profits from gambling and the rest represented an original capital contribution. The IRS would probably do what it does already. Go after the big fish and just ignore everything else.

INteresting tidbit:
I had an account on CD poker.. I just got an e-mail from them saying that due to the new US laws, my account could no longer place any wagers.

I am so glad that our government is protecting me from the evils of online poker. If not for them I would be a degenerate gambler wasting away my savings.

If you want to be a degenerate and waste away your savings, you can send it my way. I'll even play cards with you for a reasonable hourly fee.

This is going to suck for certain websites who currently have business deals with poker sites for advertisements.

It's an election year where they're probably going to lose control of the Government, and their base thinks gambling is a sin, so I'm going to say no, they don't have anything better to do at this point.

nobody will jump through all the hoops except people that are good and expect to make money

the casual guy who used to just play for fun every now and then will not bother

this severely limits the amount of players, especially the amount of casual players, and the good players will not waste time just playing other good players (less money making chance) which kills online poker

dead, done, stick a fork in it
