better still could he name an unquestionable book? ..., surely as a leading troll this would form part of his MO

I'd be unhappy if a teens education didnt include reading such a book

likewise Verm doesnt want other peoples kids to read it, which strikes me as odd.

p.s. i think the word you are looking for dysutopian, ..., tho' i've probably mispelt it

So then other kids, who don't have overprotective parents, shouldn't be able to read it either?

People can read whatever they want in their free time.

I remember a book my mom got upset about; Flower in the Attic or something like that. It was a book that my school wanted me to read. It has some graphic incest scene in it. Looking back at it now, I still don't think it should be given in school as reading material. The schools shouldn't be giving questionable reading material out to read, that's it. Whether one person things graphic sex scenes is questionable or not (or graphic language) is exactly the point; we all know it's offensive to many people. There is plenty of great literature that is neutral in those areas.

We all know that if this was material that offended muslims, it would be yanked out of the school system, no questions asked.

This is one of those books from which references will come up at business events, speeches etc. and if you don't get it, people will look at you funny. I highly recommend reading 451 for this reason alone. (it's also a good book with an important message)

I suppose we shouldn't teach children about war in history class. I don't want my children learning about violence.

Who decides what is offensive? Is it hard to really imagine that someone would be offended by explicit sex or vulgar language? You don't need me to tell you that people will be upset about that kind of thing do you? You are smart enough to know that there are people who don't like that sort of thing. You can figure it out for yourself.

And there are plenty of parents that don't like their kids watching war movies, watching cowboy movies, etc for that exact reason, despite the historical value. And they are not all Christians. My Aunt and Uncle didn't let their kids grow up around that because they didn't want their kids liking guns. They are uber liberal and far from Christian.

These poor kids are going to miss out on The Catcher in the Rye.

Every teen should read that book.

So you are ok with not teaching about war in schools?

I'm fine with war. Do I want them showing movies about it? No. Do I want them learning history as history? Yes. Do we need gore to define war? No.

We don't need to talk about the hundreds of thousands of people killed in WW2 to teach WW2? That silly.

The holocaust? The firebombing of Dresdan? Hiroshima and Nagasaki? None of those things need to be taught? Those contain massive amouints of violence. It doesn't have to be gore to violent.

Holden almost fucks a hooker, I don't want my kids exposed to that pornographic filth and garbage, regardless of the fact that Catcher in the Rye may be one of the most important works of fiction ever.

If they are banning Fahrenheit 451, Catcher is long gone.
