No, it's Walmart everywhere I'm pretty sure. I don't think I've been in one that didn't feel dirty and disgusting.

This is giving them a chance to hold down a steady job and advance within the company if they do good where they otherwise wouldn't have that chance.
I agree, for those that want to move up WalMart contrary to popular belief provides opportunities. If someone wants to leave wal mart and start their own business no one is stopping them. Keep in mind people went willingly to work at Wal Mart, if they dont like it its well within their power to change their circumstances.

I'll go on record here and say I have no problems with WalMart. They are beasts of capitalism and globalization.

All the ones up here are "nice" too. White ceilings, very bright inside, mostly organized neatly.

Of course there are cameras every 10 feet. The employees look and act like they've been condemned to death. The general mood in there is one of rudeness, gloom, malaise, and lethargy.

That's what I meant by my costco comparison. It's darker in Costco, yet it's not anywhere as close to being as gloomy

CostCo' is a great company but people that compare them with walmart especially with reguards to worker pay/benefits are not making a fair comparison.

WalMart is a great company that provides steady jobs and goods to people that used to not be able to afford them

Because small stores pay so much better? Do you know what they pay? And I remember reading about this before and they said the average Walmart employee in that area is already making over $10 an hour.

Small stores do pay better a lot of the time (although there are often tight fisted owners too )

Why do you say that? They compete with walmart directly, I believe

Then why do they balk at having $10 and hour as a minimum?

Walmart said they won't open stores in the city if it passes (which it did).

Giving the little guy a chance as in leveling the playing ground for small business and big-box stores.

Not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with it ... just sayin' what the other side's argument is. Personally, I despise Walmart. I think they're horrible for the American economy and we would be better off without them. I probably would have been in favor of this bill if it were only Walmart ... simply because I hate that company and would love to see them go under.

It's not only Walmart. It's any bigbox store that is worth over a billion, at least from what I have been reading.

Actually they're different markets I think.

CostCo competes more with Sam's Club and other "buy in bulk" stores than with Walmart.

Why? Because they're successful? Why hate a company that is "winning" the market fair and square?

They are not winning the market "fair and square." I'll just link you to the thread on OT, because I really don't feel like reciting the same stuff...

http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=2662735

So anyway, read that and then tell me it's "fair and square." And that's not even including the immoral things that they do in the eastern hemisphere (such as threatening cheap labor with termination if they do not lie about the amount of hours and consecutive days that they work).

Like I said in that thread, Wal-Mart is one of two companies that I boycot. I don't make such a decision without putting a lot of thought and research into it. Don't insult me by suggesting I hate them because they have a lot of money.
