That is what businesses do. Don't liek it, don't buy the stuff they sell. Ig enough people don't like it, and in general don't buy stuff from them because of it, they will change the policy.

Part time means that they don't have to pay any benefits. Since Walmart is a fairly major employer in many low income areas, you are reducing the number of people with medical insurance. You and I will ultimately foot the bill through higher insurance premiums.

well if you want to get down to it... no one is forcing anyone to work at all. We can all just sit at home and rot. But really it's often times about lack of any other real alternatives. In poor rural areas, a Walmart might provide the majority of jobs in the area. Or atleast a significant number of them. Jobs are not infinite in supply. If they remove a full time job and replace it with two part time jobs, that previously full time position paying benefits goes away. minus one person who has medical benefits.

That's not his point. His point is that these people don't magically become immune to disease once they don't have insurance. They still go to the doctor and they may not pay their bill. The cost still goes down to us.

Which is why insurance is as bad a scam as universal healthcare.

There is a study out there that shows as gov't regulation increases so has the cost of health care.

I must find this.

well, jeez, you can mark that up there under "duh." Even without a study to back it up, common sense should tell you that.

Walmart runs their business just like any other business owner would. Probably better; they haven't been busted for scandals or fraud or anything of the Enron-sort.

The 30 cents walmart is saving us on a music cd is coming out of our pocket some place else. Whether people simply quit and live on welfare, or we pay for their medical benefits.

Everyone knows smaller overhead equals more money for the business. However, sometimes what business is doing is more harm than good. Especially a business on the scale of Wal-mart. While i do agree they provide cheap goods and services, we really get fucked on the back end. It would be a little different if Walmart was a struggling enterprise but it is far from struggling. They are seeing great success and they are not rewarding those on the bottom who make it all possible.

When my employer made record profit last year, our employee stock went up 36% and they even distributed an extra 3 million dollars to everyones 401k program... everyone from janitors to vice presidents. I have a feeling only the vice presidents are taken care of at Walmart. In the mean time they leave the regular joe out, who makes their success possible, and damage communities more then they help them.

Just because what they are doing or have done is legal doesn't mean that it's the morally correct thing to do, or the socially responsible thing to do. Profit does not justify everything under the sun you know. Just because doing a thing means you will turn a higher profit does not make it right.

yeah and instead of sharing the wealth with those who made it possible... you will find most of the Waltons on the list of the richest people in the county.

Is your company public though? It sounds like no.

Once a company is public, the whole world changes and these types of actions becomes extremely difficult to do.

I don't think it's either or. I don't think it's moral or immoral, responsible or irresponsible. It's just neutral business practice.
