The finance reason is why you don't see more independents in office. Independents need their own money and it takes millions. Up to 5 million for congress, up to 5 million for governor, 10 million for senate. Good luck getting an independent raising 200 million to run for president.

If you do not have those assets on your own, you need the DNC or RNC to give it to you.
