| Hello all. I just became aware of this site by accident. In view of what is happening in America today there is no shortage of things to talk about. I am an old geezer, 73 y.o. and very distressed about current events. I am an American of African descent. I served one enlistment in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. I have been involved in politics my entire adult life and was a staunch liberal Democrat during the late fifties, the sixties and early 1970s. At that time I realized that the Democratic Party was controlled by people whose views and values I could not abide. That is a long story, but I became a Republican in 1972. I guess I have evolved into becoming a conservative Republican because the Republican Party has not adhered to the principles that attracted me to become Republican. I'm the same guy, with the same beliefs, but the Party seems filled with people who appear to me to be liberals. Those people have damaged the Party and are, in my view, responsible for a putting radical leftist in the Oval Office. I am happy to see that America has changed so dramatically in matters of race since the bad old days of racist, Jim Crow mandated segregation and the routine humiliation of being black in the America of my birth. I am profoundly disappointed that America's first black president is Barack Obama. I view him as a threat to the survival of the America that I have been privileged to live in. I fear that I have lived through the best days of the greatest nation the world has ever seen. | ||||
