| Youtube can do what it wants (within law), but I certainly don't think it should censor any point of view. I have seen plenty of Islamic videos, pretty damn funny imo | ||||

Its my impression that the recruitment of 'minority' cops in the US is seen as a success. Either way racism in UK police is probably best countered in this fashion
I mentioned the Jack Straw comments. There are two other current cause celebres, ..., the Muslim cop who was removed from guarding the Israeli embassy during the recent conflict in Lebanon, (it was for fear of his relatives safety, not so he could pick & choose his tasks), & the situation in Windsor around the planning permission for a prayer room at a local dairy, (it has degenerated into openly racists fear & violence on both sides)
However my point is that there is far too much emphasis on this. Typically Muslims in Birmingham are angry with the hostile attention that the rise of jihadism has brought them, (not counting the deaths etc.), & they blame the jihadists for this Most even accept the increased 'profiling' that this has brought. A good example would be the two student who were removed from the plane because they were using a phones in airports because a 13 year old girl got scared. They appeared on TV & said that they understood that persons of west Asian appearance were likely to be subject to greater scrutiny t airports The supposed overly PC 'bending over backwards' to Muslims is nothing of the sort, ..., its called being polite & is an example of inclusiveness & applies to many groups not just Muslims. The debate on Muslim dress sparked by Straws comments is an example of how the issues of incipient racism & possible tendencies to 'separateness' are being openly discussed. I'm not happy myself with the public general reaction on this. Other peoples dress is their own concern & shouldn't be legislated upon. Further choosing to see the veil as a desire to proclaim ones 'separateness' is almost certainly not accurate, ..., IMO the motivation, (in the UK) is almost certainly one of ones own self-image. Its likely a desire to get out of the body image rat-race that many women find themselves in. Last edited by avsp; 10-07-2006 at 10:19 AM. | ||||
