| Which city? Ultimately, we'll never be free from pollution, but if we embrace energy solutions which produce less than fossil fuels, we'll be in a much better place. That's why I'm always flabbergasted when I hear about environmentalists being against nuclear power. It's probably the cleanest solution there is besides wind and solar, the amount of waste is incredibly small, even though it's hazardous. Just because we don't have a great solution doesn't mean we can't store it somewhere until we find one. I'm personally in favor of sending it all to Jupiter. Never liked that planet anyway. | ||||

We can't ignore fossil fuels though. Coal and Oil are vitally important to our economy/way of life (so is natural gas but its pretty clean so I'll leave it out for now). Clean coal must be a focus because its abundant and cheap, if we can make clean coal, and by clean I mean truly clean coal a reality with limited CO2 and sulfur/mercury emissions it would be a great benefit to our society. The only problem is coal has a LOT of drawbacks and we primarily use it for electricity generation and there's many better sources to generate electricity. Nat Gas/Nuclear/Wind/Solar in that order are all fatnastic electricity generators and compared with coal have little impact on the environment and little pollutants (even taking into account the toxic waste associated with nuke power). Oil isn't going away its used in everything, what we need to do is supplement oil usage and become more efficient in how we use it. This is especially true of transportation uses of oil products. We'll slowly diversify our energy sources but we've gotta be careful not to get overzealous and shut down the economy in the process. | ||||

| Of course, we're still a long way from being able to give up using oil in pretty much everything, but perhaps in a century's time? We also cannot ignore biotech solutions. We produce so much garbage, so much organic waste, which has the potential to a great deal of provide fuel and power, as well as recycled products. Here's a fairly good video along those lines: | ||||
