They need to find people who help hire all the employees to do the census. Apparently picking reputable people or organizations with no history of voter fraud would have been too easy.

The U.S. Census is supposed to be free of politics, but one group with a history of voter fraud, ACORN, is participating in next year's count, raising concerns about the politicization of the decennial survey.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now signed on as a national partner with the U.S. Census Bureau in February 2009 to assist with the recruitment of the 1.4 million temporary workers needed to go door-to-door to count every person in the United States -- currently believed to be more than 306 million people.

A U.S. Census "sell sheet," an advertisement used to recruit national partners, says partnerships with groups like ACORN "play an important role in making the 2010 Census successful," including by "help[ing] recruit census workers."

The bureau is currently employing help from more than 250 national partners, including TARGET and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), to assist in the hiring effort.

But ACORN's partnership with the 2010 Census is worrisome to lawmakers who say past allegations of fraud should raise concerns about the organization.

"It's a concern, especially when you look at all the different charges of voter fraud. And it's not just the lawmakers' concern. It should be the concern of every citizen in the country," Rep. Lynn A. Westmoreland, R-Ga., vice ranking member of the subcommittee for the U.S. Census, told FOXNews.com. "We want an enumeration. We don't want to have any false numbers."

I think the census is a very touchy issue and I think they are looking to redraw zoning lines as well as increase the numbers of minorities in certain areas to promote federal funding. I understand there are many organizations who assist in hiring the staff to conduct the census, but this seems like an interesting move considering all the press ACORN has received recently. I think I would have said no thanks to an organization with a history of fraud and very little oversight. I can see ACORN hiring staff and telling them they need to find x numbers in an area or they don't get paid. Isn't that essentially what they did with voter registrations?

Acorn is an upstanding group with a long history of support from both parties in the US. There was no voter fraud in this past election. That was all made up by the GOP to distract from the election.

Voter registration fraud was an act of the employees, not the organization.

Again....show more than THIS if you're going to accuse an entire organization of something:

"ACORN, which claims to be a non-partisan grassroots community organization of low- and moderate-income people, came under fire in 2007 when Washington State filed felony charges against several paid ACORN employees and supervisors for more than 1,700 fraudulent voter registrations. In March 2008, an ACORN worker in Pennsylvania was sentenced for making 29 phony voter registration forms. The group's activities were frequently questioned in the 2008 presidential election."



Also, you do know that groups like Target and NAACP are participating as well? I think there are like 200 + groups involved.

The census is important when it comes to things like school funding, roadway funding, etc. An accurate count is needed to get the correct money to certain areas.

Its funny that...while we might be critical of ACORN jumping in here... how about lets be a little critical of going "conservative" on the count as a backdoor to keep funding levels lower for schools and other improvements. Unfortunately this mainly affects areas that are majority african american and other minorities. While the constitution used to say black people were counted at 3/5ths of a person, the census doesn't need to in 2009-2010.

Despite the fact your statement has been proven time and time again, it does not mean the Republican media won't try to sell it again. This smear campaign should be something the republicans are weary of. After all, Mccain lost an election because the American people are tired of the lies and the fear and loathing from the republican party. Well, that's my take anyway.

He was 100% right. Show me exactly where the actions of a handful of individuals led to the rampant voter fraud the Republicans claim? I'd also like to know when we started blaming organizations for the actions of people that just so happen to work for them? If that were the case, the Bush administration are a bunch of felons because of Scooter.
