Moments after the assault on Ian Tomlinson was captured on video, he suffered a heart attack and died.

The Guardian has handed a dossier of evidence to the police complaints watchdog.

It sheds new light on the events surrounding the death of the 47-year-old newspaper seller, who had been on his way home from work when he was confronted by lines of riot police near the Bank of England.

Just because you are having a bad day is no excuse to use force in situations that do not warrant it. This is even more important in positions of authority.

It is one thing when this happens, but the police need to be accountable for lying to cover things up or purposely omitting information.

When are ppl going to learn that its the police that actually cause the riots? Control, always, always, always, and inevitably leads to resistance, every time.

I doubt if it really helps the situation or trhe mindset of the cops if the bloke in charge of the policing of the protests spends the previous two weeks repeatedly telling the press that his officers 'are up for it'

Thats a literal quote of a vernacular term which translates as 'we are going to bust some heads'.

Theres now a second case of footasge of a cop batoning a protester purely out of anger at being berated.

Also in the original case IIUC NONE of the cops who witnessed the attack remonstrated with the offending cop, nor grassed him up even after the vid was public.

It is of course illegal in the UK to film or photgraph police officers & members of the intelligence services whether uniformed or not.

Bus windows in Birmingham often have large pics of cops positioned so that ppl can feel 'wached'/'protected'. Many shops have life-size cardcut cops displayed prominently in the window.

cliffs: Trust between the public & police in the UK is collapsing rapidly. Cops are openly walking about displaying their fear thru over-agressive pre-emptive stances even in middle-class areas.
