I'm such a good son

Last night, my mother managed to lock her keys in her car at work. She called the local police, and the fellow was unable to retrieve them, said he did not have the proper tools for her car. I imagine he just didn't know what he was doing, but I digress.

She was fortunately able to take home a company car, though she isn't supposed to drive it home, and simply figured she would get my key to her vehicle and everything would be fine this morning. Well, guess what. I can't find my key! We have no idea where it is, but I haven't seen it in a long time. She just gives me her key off her keyring when we switch vehicles, so I never have the need to have my key to her car. So no key except the one locked in her car. We have to break in this morning, I even offered to go help do so, as I have done it a few times when working at the car dealership.

Last night I go to bed dead tired at 2AM, hoping to sleep in this morning. I worked a hard 9 hour day yesterday doing shovel work... I was off today and I was really happy to get to sleep in and relax...

This morning, my cell phone rings at a little after 7AM, and of course it is mom. She managed to run her car out of gas on the way to work! Or so she thought. I hurry to get dressed, brush my teeth, throw my gas can in the truck, and go off to where her car decided to die. Of course, I was wondering how she managed to run out of gas, but she said that her gauge doesn't work, and it being a Ford Taurus, I'm not suprised.

So I get there, half asleep, it is pouring down rain and I'm standing half under her umbrella pouring gas into her car. We stick about a gallon in and it won't start. Cranks, but nothing. Still acts empty. I dump another gallon in. Same thing. I'm pretty irritated, and getting progressively wetter

We let it sit a minute then try again... no luck.

I got the brilliant idea of grabbing my can of ether from the truck... for some reason I have one in there all the time just in case someone is having car problems or whatever, it isn't for personal use, as we never have any problems with our family cars, since they are all Toyotas

I figured if we could get it to fire up on ether it might take off and run... squirt squirt... and it would fire. Then I knew it was a fuel problem, and nothing else. But it still wouldn't run. Tried the ether one more time... damn thing backfires, blows a flame out the air filter assembly, and catches the air filter on fire!

Talk about a freakin wake up procedure at 8AM

So I blow out a corner of it and then pull it out and throw it to the wet ground to extinguish it, throw it back in there, slam the hood, and take mom to the garage to tell her employer that her car is dead on the side of the road, when she shouldn't have even had it in the first place

Sorry mom, I tried my bestest.

So now I'm sitting at the library, waiting to see if they need help getting into her car, as it is the same as my truck, and I broke into it only a few months ago. I'm such a good son.
