Wow...the one liberal on any network who has his own show is so dangerous as to warrant a website following his every move. Way to go Keith!

And I didn't find him 'bashing' him..he simply stated that in 9 seasons he had gone through 7 teams, and he was reliable. He even said he helped them get into the play-offs.

Seriously, this is not news.

I didn't watch the video, but the guy really wasn't a superstar. I guess this isn't the most polite time to point it out, but the statement seems at least a fair opinion.

Did he say anything else bad about Lidle?

I wouldn't say he bashed him. I just don't understand why he had to repeat over and over why he wasn't a star. What does that have to do with anything?

He was a journeyman pitcher and most certainly not a superstar.
There was nothing wrong with what he said.

I said I didn't think he bashed him. And no, he wasn't a superstar. So why mention it? Multiple times? Did someone ask him or say he was a superstar?

My post wasn't directed at you. I started it before yours was posted.

Maybe someone else was reporting he was, or maybe the lead in said he was? I have no idea.
That blog cut that video so I can't tell what was said before it.

Not everyone follows baseball. Surely there were people wondering who the hell this Lidle guy was who crashed a plane. It's a natural question to want to know whether he was a superstar or just a bench warmer. Maybe this seems more offensive to those who think his non superstar status is obvious and doesn't need to be repeated. Even so, why is saying he wasn't a superstar disparaging? Most professional atheletes aren't superstars.

Facts and accurate reporting don't always work? You would rather hear misconceptions of the truth because it suits your mood?

Because 'it's a sad day for the Lidle family, we give them our thoughts and prayers' or something similar is SO inaccurate and factually wrong

Sure, while they're already bashing the guy, why not give his police record, past drug use, or anything else they can dig up, becuase it's all factually correct!

You don't have to be an asshole to give facts and be accurate. In fact, this isn't a time to call for facts and accuracy; this is a time to give sympathy to the family and friends of Lidle.

Why wasn't it the time? He took a whole, what, 20-30 seconds to briefly give people an idea of this guy's baseball career right after he made international news. He also mentioned that he was a reliable pitcher who helped the Yankees make it to the playoffs. So he was complimentary but realistic at the same time. Seems fair to anyone interested in getting objective facts from the media.

What exactly do you think the role of the media should be? You have such an emo conception of what their duties are-- cater to feelings first, facts second. This was not the eulogy at his funeral where you're supposed to act like he was the greatest guy in the world and gloss over flaws. It was on the spot reporting conveying basic, fair background info, and I'm sure everyone who doesn't follow baseball appreciates it because they were wondering what Olbermann clarified.

This is what it should be (all facts too)

Was that not factual? Was that not reporting the story as it happened?

Was there a need to completely blast his career or him as a person?

It's not emo, it's considerate. That's what people do when they have a heart; yes, liberals are not always the ones with hearts.

Don't care about the sports aspect of who he was.

Sucks he crashed into a building and several people were killed, including him. Not sure what he was doing flying a plane he wasn't instrument rated for. I am good friends with a lot of people who are in aviation and I can't imagine any of them thinking they could take out a plane they weren't capable of handling.
