Homosexuality, nature or nuture

This study seems to suggest that homosexuality is not a concious choice, rather it's a naturally occuring inborn trait.

With documentation of gay or lesbian behavior among giraffes, penguins, parrots, beetles, whales and dozens of other creatures, the Oslo Natural History Museum concludes human homosexuality cannot be viewed as "unnatural."
"We may have opinions on a lot of things, but one thing is clear -- homosexuality is found throughout the animal kingdom, it is not against nature," an exhibit statement said.

Geir Soeli, the project leader of the exhibition entitled "Against Nature," told Reuters: "Homosexuality has been observed for more than 1,500 animal species, and is well documented for 500 of them."

Point? Even nature screws up sometimes.

When gene-therpay is at its prime, I suspect we'll be able to fix the gay gene.

My not-so-scientific experience suggests some people are born gay and some people choose to be gay.

fix? ask a gay person if s/he needs "fixing"

I'll never understand why society hates gays for a choice they didn't make but doesn't hate bigots for the choice they do.

Well it's certainly not the way nature intended. Had it been some sort of 'evolutionary advancement' you'd see a lot different characteristics in gays. You decide if it's a disorder or not.

Nevermind, I thought you had a doctor that was saying it's a genetic disorder, not just you saying "I don't like it so it must be a genetic disorder."

It's not proven one way or the other. It's all at this point based on correlative evidence (comparing us to penguins, beetles, and giraffes?!

The OP is saying it's natural.

It's not that I 'don't like it' but it's that it's not something that nature created. Nature has reasons for things that occur. Wouldn't evolution have taught you this? Survival of the fittest?

The ONLY answer to the question "nature or nuture?" is "yes."

Beyond that we have no idea........but I enjoy how you tagged it a genetic disorder just because you "turned one gay."
