because everyone is as physically capable and intelligent as you? no exceptions

Depends on the crime and the circumstance. I think you're being a bit dramatic. But yes, prison should be a worse experience than being poor as far as I'm concerned. Take that as you will.

Well being being a decades ago meant malnutrition and the diseases that come with it...pretty common in Chinese prisons

Is that what you're advocating?

Yes Thorgrim, that's exactly what I'm advocating. Let's turn our prisons into a third world concentration camp. Somehow you managed to find the hidden truth in my post.

China has one the best economies in the world, if not the fastest growing...they have a top military...

They would never...under any circumstance, be called a third world country or be running third world concentration camps (whatever that means, I guess the Germans ran first world concentration camps?)

"decades ago"

You're own words.

Do a Google search for Chinese prison camps. I assumed this is what you were referring to since you mentioned malnutrition and decades ago. I guess too much credit was given.

Regardless, this is a very silly debate. It really depends on which definition of third world you use. But if you look at China in the mid-50s it can definitely be considered third world.

And I couldnt agree with you more!!

Although his method is questionable, all I am saying is we dont know yet why he is in the position he is in at this moment. You have only been an adult for what 10 yrs? And it sounds to me that you have an excellent start, but in the blink of an eye, things occur beyond your control and your life is forever changed. We simply dont know why he is where he is at.

It could be that if he takes a lower paying job at this point, and has paid into the system all his life, it may very well screw him out of benefits when he does retire in 2 years. The SS benefits that you receive when you retire are determined by the wage you made during the last few quarters you worked. In his mind it may be that going to prison for 2 years with a 3 hots and a cot, is worth what his SS benefits will be for the rest of his life.

SS benefits are determined by your LIFETIME contributions to the system not the last three quarters of work.

There's no excuse for simply not wanting to work and choosing to mooch. Sorry there's no excuse for it. If you have a disability and can't work thats different then saying "well I dont wanna work a min wage job becuase its a shitty job it will suck and I will never get ahead, so I'll mooch".

At what rate those contributions are distributed to you depends on the wage you made the last few quarter, (dad cant remember how many), does determine the amount of your monthly check.

If he paid into the system all his life, how can you call it mooching? I am by no means condoning what he is doing.. Im just throwin out the suggestion that he very well may be playing the system. The Dirty Bastard!

He paid into the system, so if he's unemployed he'd get unemployment to find another job or get educated. If he died his wife would get spousal benefits. The system is working, sometimes we dont get to take advantage of all of it. In fact the better off you are the less likely you are to reap the benefits of the social safety nets we have in place. I think we need a safety net but I hope I never have to use it. This guy is going out of his way to cheat the system and even avoid the safety nets. He can get a job, he's chosing not to...part of the problem is prison/jail is a joke. These guys dont need cable tv 8 hrs a day, they need hard labor 8 hrs a day.

I can see the fundamental attribution error at work again, as per usual.

The idea that decisions people make are more to do with the type of person they are than circumstances.

There could be a myriad of conditions and situation that made the man believe this was his best option.

This assumption that he is lazy really has no backing

I was refering to his last point about why people make assumptions of him being "lazy" or some other nonsense
