North Korea: Wipe USA off the map

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.

Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Myanmar, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.

The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.

"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.

The warning came on the eve of the 59th anniversary of the start of the three-year Korean War, which ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula in state of war.
NKorea threatens US; world anticipates missile - Yahoo! News
Bush didn't do a very good job with North Korea. It looks like Obama is about to be tested. As things are starting to shape up it appears there very well could be another war with North Korea.

Basically North Korea has a shipping vessel we believe has a missile on it. We need permission from the UN to inspect it. North Korea says if we do they'll go to war. Oh and next week on our Independence Day they are going to fire a missile towards Hawaii.

NK might be able to wipe South Korea off the map (if the US didn't step in).
But as for attacking the US, they are talking through their ass.
They are acting so bizarre, even their own allies are beginning to get concerned.
Still, I have to wonder....are they loony tunes, trying to extort money, or do they have a death wish?

Ignore them completely and let them do what they want? Or ignore their words and stick with the UN sanctions?

I don't care about the sanctions...I mean what the fuck would we ever want from them? What the hell could they afford to buy from us? I think sanctions are pointless for a country like them or Cuba and all it does is hurt the people.

Rome paid tribute to the Huns for years. It was gold, and the amount grew ever larger.

We have been paying annual tribute to North Korea since 1994. 500,000 tons of heavy fuel oil, the only crude North Korea has access to. We are suppossed to build them some light water reactors too, but we have yet to come through with those.

Bunch of damn shit. Cry about North Korea's weapons program and continue to allow Pakistan to siphon off military aide to expand their nuclear program. Yep, we paid Pakistan millions of dollars for "naval losses" in Afghanistan.

You stand a better chance of dying in the United States than in North Korea.

Death rate in the US 8.27 per 1,000

Death rate in North Korea 7.29 per 1,000

I wouldn't be too sure about that, though. Can we really trust the North Koreans to give us accurate numbers?

The sanctions on pre-ivasion-Iraq very likely increased their deathrate. I presume that's the point Donkey was making.

Yea, sanctions would be a bad idea. More ware would also be a bad idea. We should leave them alone, call their bluff so to speak. and I'm not so sure I necessarily trust all of the CIA's numbers either..

Yeah that's where I am. Let China deal with them. We wouldn't fight long-term in Korea without China's blesssings anyways.

That is kind of a self centered opinion. Sanctions don't just prevent trade with the United States.

They can sell weapons and plenty of countries want them. Sanctions make it easier to prevent them from selling nukes or other large weapons to another country.

That probably true, but I still think sanctions could exacerbate them even further maybe pushing them closer to using those nukes themselves. I'm really not a big fan of gun control, so I'm not a big fan of nuke control either.

I don't play the cry wolf game. When someone makes a threat to me, I take it seriously. Even if it is a bluff, it is not something that should be bluffed.

NK is the ONLY nuclear power that brags that they will use their nukes and destroy multiple countries. What do you do when someone is running around a college campus with a loaded gun threatening to use it?

The UN needs to grow some balls and stop them. Unfortunately the world depends on the US to do everything. While they may criticize us, the other countries of the world secretly hope we do something so that they don't have to make such tough decisions.

One more note: Obama has been really quiet on this issue. I don't know why. Perhaps he is focused on it but doesn't want us to know. I am pretty disappointed that we are taking those threats so lightly.

I like the fact we are just staying quiet on the issue..walking softly while we carry the big stick. For far too often these dictators use "OMG the US is imperialist" against us. Iran has already tried AGAIN to blame their shit on us to take focus off the problem. NK is doing the same thing. Put the people in fear or redirect their anger so they stop paying attention to the real problem in their country.

You have a good point, I'm just worried that if we attack them, then they would likely shoot that gun. Its a Mexican stand-off situation. If they shoot first, then they are clearly the bad guy.

Very true, but the longer we wait, the more powerful their gun.

Ah yes...the longer Iran waits to destroy Israel, the more likely they'll be nuked by Israel.
