The troops shot 50-year-old Terry Lloyd in the head while he was in a makeshift ambulance, having already been hurt in crossfire, the coroner said.

Mr Lloyd's interpreter was also killed and his cameraman is missing believed dead following the incident, which took place near Basra in March 2003.

The coroner is to ask the attorney general to consider pressing charges.

A spokesman for the US Department of Defense said an investigation in May 2003 had found that US forces followed the rules of engagement.

I wonder if anything will come of this. I highly doubt it though.

I don't know, I think in the middle of a legitimate firefight there's probably not much that will ever be difinitively proven about it.

It sucks that the ambulance had gone back to pick him up and that he could have survived had he recieved medical attention though.

Concievibly this could become the UK's Shenan, the family seem pretty determined

It may also fuel anti-American feelings, ..., 'what the point of being their ally if they're going to pick & choose when to listen even if we've a valid concern'

Even if Blair had the will to pressurise the admin, (which i doubt), I assume UK courts would have no jurisdiction, (which is fair enough).

FWIW Simpson's 'blood on the lens' report reached even the 'Sun readers', ..., perhaps (sadly), luckily Lloyd wasnt a 'celebrity reporter'
