| This like the act of a dying animal. snapping and snarling to the last. I have no idea how they have not collapsed entirely into anarchy and warlords as it is. These people have nothing and thier government makes sure of it. They spend every penny they have maintaining their massive military when thier people don't even have electricity. I really don't think we have to do much. The only problem is China. China wants millions of north korean refugess like we want to open the border to mexico. NO thank you. IF the economic sanctions are too tough, NK will collapse and that is exactly what will happen. | ||||

Not sure how it could get much worse, but I didn't think there were sanctions against the sort of things the people need.

| If china does not want refugees they need to send resources in to the country to help establish stability. The people won't leave if there is no reason to. We need to use our 200+ billion a year trade deficit with china as a bit of leverage. Negotiate with china and let them know we understand they don't want millions of refugees. At the same time NK will not stand for an american presence in their country. We can partner with china, in that we send them supplies to aid the koreans, and the chinese deliver those supplies for us and maintain security. We also need to do it under the condition that the Chinese let the north koreans choose their own form of government. I am sure south korea and japan would want a piece of the action. The can negotiate their way in there. Though I am sure the NKoreans are probably brain washed in to hating the south and japanese. | ||||

| I think they'll probably wind up testing another one. Why wouldn't they? The sanctions ultimately mean nothing. China doesn't want to deal with the refugees, and they even said they intended to ignore key provisions in the resolution. By continuing however, they show that if you continue to put pressure on them, they're going to respond the same way an animal backed into a corner would.. by lashing out how they are capable. | ||||

Certainly there are dissenters (who tend not to live long) but I in general the population mostly worships the leader. I will not defend how NK is run, nor many actions it takes. However when the US has a policy that your government should be changed, and refuses to directly negotiate while demanding you disarm....well I cannot say the actions they take are surprising at all. Couple that with position that nations with (working) nukes are generally not invaded it is clear why they have taken the action they have. It is also clear that pressure, such as sanctions will not work and more than likely will only cause NK to resist more. Military action will result in many people being killed, including possibly US service people in SK if they remain there. Idealogical positions end causing more harm than good much of the time.
