Yes, the government should be able to toss people in jail for use of marijuana. That was the question, that was my answer. It is illegal and therefore, they should be able to enforce that law. Stop trying to create controversy where there isn't any.

Then it's up to the people to change it. Until then, against the law, the law enforcement agencies around the country may enforce it.

Not an easy task when faced by a government that has no wish to change the law, and continues to "inform" people of why the law shouldn't be changed.

I am wondering what I did to have to argue semantics about this bullshit with the pro-drug crowd? Legalize it, don't legalize it I don't give a damn either way. My statement was pretty clear in answering a question I thought was pretty clear.

The government doesn't want to change a lot of things but that's irrelevent when it's up to the PEOPLE and the MAJORITY.

Only if you have a well-informed majority.

Hence why I dislike democracy. People are simply not well informed enough about enough issues to make good decisions, and politicans are rarely better.

The fact that the majority is ignorant isn't the processes fault. It is up to the informed people out there to educate the majority.

No the process is flawed, not so much so as some others, but certainly flawed.

The issue is the lack of alternatives.

I wasn't trying to argue semantics, and I realize in the context it would look as such. I was just trying to iniate a bit of a side discussion on how people view laws they don't believe in. I subscribe personally that it is a persons responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I don't excercise it much publicly for lack of a good enough cause and for fear of jail. So with no personal attacks intended I was just wondering if you or others honored and believed in laws based on the fact that they were laws.

I read somewhere that it is the #1 cash crop in the United States. Look at all those tax dollars we are missing out on.

The War on Drugs isnt going any better than the War on Iraq is.

Good to hear.

I am not and have never been a drug user. Nor do I advocate or encourage drug use. However, I have a big problem with the government telling individuals what they can and cannot do with their own bodies in the privacy of their homes. Hopefully more states will follow suit.

Neither can be won. Both are a massive waste of tax payer dollars.

yeah, the federal government doesnt allow weed in california either, but because the state has legalized medicinal marijuana (and grow it and sell it in pharmacies), the local cops dont care. thats all that matters to me, because i dont remember the last time i was walking down the street and saw federal patrol officers.

i dont smoke weed, but i dont think it is my place to tell anyone else what they should or should not do. this goes into play for ALL drugs. if someone wants to do meth or coke, i say let them do what they want. i dont want meth heads telling me what freedoms i can and cannot have, and i'll show them the same respect. a common argument against this is "meth heads steal cars and break into homes!", which obviously crosses the "its not my business line". well you know what? i say if meth heads are breaking into cars and houses, LOCK THEM UP FOR BREAKING INTO CARS AND HOUSES. doing that is NOT an involunatry action, and it should not be treated like one.

charge people for crimes against others, but NEVER crimes against themselves. this falls under "life, liberty, and persuit of happiness". if meth makes them happy, then it is their liberty to do with their life as they please, as long as it does not impede on anyone elses life, liberty, or persuit of happiness. because thats what a "free country" is all about.

legalize it.

That I don't agree with. I think it is unjust not to be able to kill the person that kills a member of your family...do I should just disobey the murder statutes?
