Webb Joins Forces with Liberal Blog That Gloats about Contractors Mutilated in Iraq

ARLINGTON, VA – Jim Webb has proudly accepted over $130,000 in tainted money from a controversial liberal website that is helping him and other Democrats raise money.

“Jim Webb has proven he will do anything for liberal Democratic money – even that of a fringe liberal blogger who gloats about the deaths of American contractors in Iraq,” said Allen Campaign Manager Dick Wadhams.

In 2004, four American contractors were murdered in Fallujah; their mutilated and beheaded bodies were hung from a bridge and burned. Markos Moulitsas Zúniga (Kos), the creator and editor of The Daily Kos, who personally gave Webb $250, explained "I feel nothing over the death of mercenaries ... Screw them." (Matthew Klam, Op-Ed, "Fear And Laptops On The Campaign Trail," The New York Times, 9/26/04)

Asked earlier this year by ABC News if he regretted his remarks, Moulitsas said "Absolutely not." (ABC's "Nightline," 7/24/06)

Moulitsas, who has been called the “most vile of the angry left bloggers,” has been “aggressively talking up the party’s challengers in Senate races in Virginia, Montana, Ohio, and Nevada.” He has also become an important player in the Democratic Party. "[M]oulitsas ... chats with Senate Leadership aides several times a week and has brainstormed with Democratic operatives about the fall campaign ..." (Donald Luskin, "America's Looniest Liberal Pundit," National Review, 9/26/05; Jonathan Darman, "The War's Left Front," Newsweek, 7/3/06)

Democratic Leader Harry Reid, who donated $10,000 to Webb, “has worked closely with liberal Internet community sites like Dailykos.com – his office is in near daily contact with Kos…" ("Riding The Cyber Tiger," National Journal's CongressDaily, 5/27/05)

“Jim Webb continues to reveal just how far left he will go to finance his campaign,” Wadhams said. “Even if it means selling out to extremists like Daily Kos.”
Very interesting. This is more of a shot at Kos than it is Webb. Takes a lot of brass to make such a strong public statement on your own website. We'll see what comes of it I guess. I'll update when the users over at Kos start to embarrass themselves over this statement.

It's a shot a Kos and nothing more, its not even accurate

People all over the internet, many blogs, have gone to ActBlue — Netroots Candidates

To support candidates that Chris Bowers of MyDD, Dave at SwingStateProject, and also Markos at DailyKos have HIGHLIGHTED, they are also using ActBlue, which is not operated or run by Kos, and the Netroots project inside ActBlue is not run by Kos either...and the site list goes well beyond the 3 I just listed

It's a stupid and desperate attack, but if I were him I'd be doing the same thing

It's really kind of stupid. It's like saying, look at my opponent, accepting campaign contributions from individuals who've organized themselves in an effort to promote a candidate they believe will better represent them!

They disagree with me, so they're radicals!@!3114Q

I mean, Kos might be more left than many blogs, but it has a wide appeal because of it's popularity and brings all types of people in IMO..

I'd rather see a blog full of politically active people use an organization like ActBlue to donate money than a huge corporation doing the same any day.

This thread is to discuss Allen's page. And it's being discussed.

Webb strikes back at Allen on his page:
Jim Webb for U.S. Senate: 21 Days To Go
Do Virginians know that as Governor, George Allen accepted $125,000 in political contributions from Smithfield Foods, a meatpacking company that was under investigation by his administration for dumping improperly treated animal waste into a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay?
One guy accepts donations from a company not earth friendly. The other accepts donations from a guy not friendly to those who are helping us fight the war in Iraq.

Webb needs to do a little bit better. But it's a good counter. Donations almost balance out. Very interesting.

Of course people who think those who continue to support this failed policy should be out of office are going to donate candidates they can believe will do a better job.

I don't see how there's anything wrong with that.

You know what else I don't see? I don't see how that even begins to compare to accepting a large donation on behalf of a company that's going around polluting though.

Allen's attack seems pointless IMO.

Most definitely pointless. It's just an interesting cheap shot in a campaign full of smearing. I found it quite humorous personally.
